2. A Critic
 A critic = “One who expresses a reasoned opinion on
any matter especially involving a judgment of its value,
truth, righteousness, beauty, or technique” (“Critic”).

3. A Literary Critic
 Literary Criticism =
“The evaluative or interpretive work written by professional
interpreters of texts. It is "criticism" not because it is
negative or corrective, but rather because those who write
criticism ask hard, analytical, crucial, or "critical" questions
about the works they read” (“Glossary”).

4. What’s the difference again?
 A critic is one who likes or dislikes a book, a movie, a
dinner. A critic does evaluate but only on the basis of
personal preference.
 A literary critic is usually a professor of literature.
Literary criticism is the act of interpreting literature
and must be published in an academic publication
such as a journal.

6. What is NOT literary criticism?
 Book reviews
 Newspaper articles
 Wikipedia
 Ask.com
Literary criticism must be published in an academic
journal or paper.

7. So, where do I find legitimate
literary criticism?
Step 1: Go to the LFCC library page http://www.lfcc.edu/library/
Step 2: Click on FIND ARTICLES
Step 3: Click on LITERATURE RESOURCE CENTER (Infotrac)
Step 4: Fill in your BB user name and password (same one you use
for MY LFCC)
Step 5: Look for full text articles on by author for literary criticism
Step 6: Click on tab for literary criticism
Step 7: Evaluate the article to make sure it is truly an analysis, not a
review!
