Tips for Becoming a
Successful Real Estate
Agent

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number
of real estate agents and brokers in the United States is
expected to grow by 11 percent between the years 2010
and 2020. Maureen McDermut is a highly respected and
trusted real estate agent in Santa Barbara, California,
who is known for her integrity, efficiency, and extensive
network. Here she shares a few tips on how to become
a successful real estate agent.
Have a plan in mind: Becoming a real estate agent is
similar to starting a new business; you can’t be
successful if you don’t have a plan in place. A good plan
will help you to identify your goal, as well as the steps
necessary to achieve that goal.
Promote yourself: When you first enter the industry,
make sure everyone knows that you are a real estate
agent. This will encourage referrals from family and
friends, and may even be the start of your client list. A
highly visible agent has a better chance of gaining
business than one who is less visible or accessible.
Communicate well and often: Once clients sign with
you, be sure you communicate thoroughly and
effectively regarding any and all pertinent details of a
sale or purchase. Even if it is simply to touch base,
experts recommend that you contact your client at least
once a week.
