  2. 2. Books are grouped or organized in a special way so that we can easily find the books we need in a library. Libraries
  3. 3. Fiction or Non-fiction? Fiction books are books that are make-believe or not factual. Non-fiction books are books that are based on facts. Books in the library are organized into two groups:
  4. 4. Non-fiction Books Non-fiction books are organized by subjects and grouped by call numbers. Call numbers come from something called the Dewey Decimal System.
  5. 5. The Dewey Decimal Groups 000s General Works 100s Philosophy and Psychology 200s Religion 300s Social Sciences 400s Language 500s Science 600s Technology 700s Arts and Recreation 800s Literature
  6. 6. 000s-General Works Books that fit in this group have many different subjects in them. 031.02 RIP 032.3 GUI001.9 Bar
  7. 7. 100s-Philosophy and Psychology Books in this group tell about how we think and feel. 152.4 JOH 155.5 OWE
  8. 8. 200s-Religion Books in this group tell about different religions. 200 BUL 291.1 SHE
  9. 9. 300s-Social Sciences Books in this group tell about society & human relationships. This includes economics & politics. 332.024 HAR 333.72 COL

  11. 11. Fairy tales, tall tales and folk tales are also placed in the 300s. 398.2 OSB398.2 BRE
  12. 12. 400s-Language Books in this group are about different languages or grammar. 419 FLO 428.1 CLE 463 LIP
  13. 13. 500s-Science & Math Books in this group are about things from all types of sciences. 597.96 BRO523.8 JEF 551.2 SEN

  15. 15. 700s-Arts and Recreation Books in this group are about things we do for fun. 743 AME 796.332 BOO
  16. 16. 800s-Literature Books in this group are stories, plays, poetry, or jokes. 811 PRE 812 GIF
  17. 17. Fiction books used to be put in the 800s because they are stories, but soon there were so many fiction books that they had to be separated into their own section.
  18. 18. 900s-History and Geography Books in this group tell about events of the past and places in the world. 940.1 HOP 998.9 DON
