Health Information Systems Program
(HISP) and DHIS2
• HISP is an action research network created at
the initiative of the University of Oslo in
1994. HISP is controlled by the IT Department
of the University of Oslo
• DHIS2 free software developed by HISP is
designed and used for the capture, analysis,
dissemination and evaluation of data for
many health programs.
• DHIS2 is a data warehouse designed to store
the essential health data and thus promote
the Information for Action.

The objective of the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) shall be the attainment of the highest possible standard and protection of health of the peoples in the sub-region through the harmonisation of the policies of the Member States, pooling of resources, and cooperation with one another and with others for a collective and strategic combat against the health problems of the sub-region.
The GIS module provides the ability to visualize data on maps.
This module generate thematic maps using polygons (such as departments, health zones) or points (such as clinics).
This module offers a multitude of layers that can work on specific content. Layers can be displayed together and be combined into custom overlays. (Example: meningitis cases and meningitis deaths)
The mapping can be performed to any indicator, data element or completeness, and for each level of the hierarchy of organizational units.
There is also a special layer to display health facilities on the map, where each institution is represented by a symbol according to its nature.
Can overlay the layer (left)
Currently, in our plateform, we continue configuring our dashboard using the contribution of our epidemics committee. For example, on the tab here, we display in PivotTable as the situation of epidemic diseases in 2015. On the basis of the epidemics having the highest number, we display on the map countries being the most affected. Here we use the number of cases but we should use the incidence rate.
Base on the measles incidence of 2015, we focus on regions of the countries having the highest incidence (between Côte d’Ivoire, Niger and Guinea)
From Week 1 to Week 19
On this chart we see appearing the number of cases of meningitis from the first to the nineteenth week of 2015. This will help us in developing meningitis spread cards in ECOWAS countries
On this chart we see appearing the number of deaths of meningitis from the first to the nineteenth week of 2015. This will help us in developing meningitis spread cards in ECOWAS countries
7 countries affected. The most affected is Burkina where almost the regions are affected: 34 cases
Only one country has a death: Burkina: 1
All Burkina region ares now affected. We note that the disease affects also Senegal as the 8th country affected.
All burkina regions are affected and the number of region where we have deaths increases.
We also note that some countries such as Senegal, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire are affected
W6 et W13
We can see in this slide the meningitis belt covering the entire Niger, Burkina Faso, southern Mali.
But it also noted the widening of the belt to the south coast Ivory
We note the enlargement of the meningitis belt to Benin and Nigeria
