8. ROMAN CLOTHES
The Romans clothing style was affected by their social rank,
function in society, and level of wealth to afford more elaborate
fabrics and jewelry.
The tunic was standard dress for all men
from slaves to the nobles
TUNICS
Only male citizens of Rome were
allowed to wear togas
TOGAS
Togas were used for special occasions or
to show peoples rank. Only the Emperor
was a allowed to wear a purple toga.
MEN CLOTHES
The poorest citizens wore a simple
tunic.
9. WOMEN CLOTHES
Roman women wore tunics and a special
garment called ‘stola’.
Many women wore a shawl called ‘palla’
over the stola to keep them warm.
They also wore decorations like ‘brooches’
over their clothes.
