2. •As we study about prayer we must
look into the topic of supplication.
•What is supplication?
•How can we use supplication?
•What does God expect us to do
concerning supplication?

3. Supplication Defined…
•Supplication:act or instance of supplicating;
humble prayer, entreaty, or petition.
Dictionary.com
•In the New Testament it means 1) need,
indigence, want, privation, penury 2) a
seeking, asking, entreating, entreaty to God or
to man Thayer’s
•In the O.T. it means to pray, beg, entreaty,
seek favor, seek help.
•So, in our prayer life we must consider these
things to offer our supplication unto God!

4. Prayer a Priority!
1 Timothy 2:1-2
•“I exhort therefore, that, first of all,
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving of thanks, be made for all men…”
•In prayer we must a.s.k. for God to help
us with what we need. Matthew 7:7-8
•This requires work. 1 Thes. 5:17; Jn. 5:39
•We must decide (properly) what we need and
who can help us… Jas. 4:3; Phil. 4:13,19
•When we have what we need we can help
others better. Mt. 6:33; Acts 20:35

5. Supplication & Obedience!
•As we ask God for help, we must
recognize as Jesus showed us, “not my
will; but thine be done”. Lk. 22:42
•Sometimes we have to suffer and mature
through difficulty… Heb. 5:7; Jas. 1:2-4
•We may not need what we think…
•God’s abundant life is not material things
only. Jn. 10:10; Rom. 14:17; Eph. 1:3
•Our obedient attitude says, “if the Lord
wills” let it be… James 4:15-16

6. What Supplication Does…
•It gives opportunity for faith building and
peace. Luke 18:1; Phil. 4:6-7
•It causes us to recognize God’s ability to
help us. John 16:23; Heb. 13:5-6
•It helps us to pray for others. Eph. 6:18
•God can do beyond what we can ask or think!
Ephesians 3:20-21
•It helps us to keep God’s commandments
of loving self so we can love and help
others. Mark 12:30-31; Deut. 8:18;
2 Thes. 3:10; Eph. 4:28; 1 Jn. 3:17-18

7. Seek God’s Help Through
Your Supplication in Prayer!
•Be sure to use supplication in your earnest
and continual prayer life. 1 Thes. 5:17
•Make your life right with God today!Rom.6:23
•Come to God by obeying the gospel which
includes:
•Hearing & Believing the gospel. Rom. 1:16
•Repenting of sinful living. Acts 3:19
•Confessing faith in Jesus. Acts 8:37
•Baptism into Christ… Rom. 6:3-6; Acts 22:16
