  target	
  audience	
  is	
  teenagers.	
  This	
  music	
  video	
  
will	
  appeal	
  to	
  them	
  because	
  it	
  is	
  bright	
  and	
  fun.	
  It	
  
contains	
  dance	
  and	
  in	
  this	
  day	
  and	
  age	
  dance	
  is	
  
becoming	
  something	
  that	
  more	
  and	
  more	
  people	
  
are	
  loving	
  to	
  go	
  and	
  watch.	
  It	
  will	
  also	
  appeal	
  to	
  
teenagers	
  as	
  it	
  is	
  a	
  performance.	
  Not	
  a	
  lot	
  of	
  
thinking	
  is	
  involved.	
  They	
  are	
  able	
  to	
  just	
  sit	
  and	
  
watch	
  and	
  enjoy	
  the	
  video.

  will	
  also	
  appeal

  people	
  other	
  than	
  teenagers

  back

  it	
  might	
  spark	
  memories

  bubbly,

  happy

  fun.

  of

  moods	
  will	
  be	
  shown	
  through

video.

  tone	
  will	
  be	
  created	
  using	
  codes	
  and	
  
convenBons.	
  Such	
  as	
  costume,	
  lighBng,	
  colour,	
  set-­‐ups,	
  
make	
  up,	
  camera	
  angles.	
  All	
  of	
  these	
  will	
  help	
  to	
  create	
  
and	
  set	
  the	
  tone	
  /	
  mood.	
  An	
  example	
  of	
  these	
  codes	
  
and	
  convenBons	
  helping	
  to	
  set	
  the	
  tone	
  is	
  using	
  a	
  wide	
  
shot	
  to	
  include	
  seOng	
  and	
  the	
  performance,	
  (dancers	
  
having	
  fun).

  shows	
  the	
  audience	
  and	
  helps	
  to	
  
show	
  the	
  bright	
  seOng	
  and	
  a	
  lot	
  of	
  the	
  performers.

  costume	
  and

  up	
  the	
  dancers	
  are	
  able	
  to	
  
look	
  bubbly	
  and	
  pop

happy	
  fun

  appealing	
  and

something	
  that	
  looks	
  natural	
  to	
  watch.

  gradually

  the

  • 3. Song Choice & Concept •  Song  choice  –  Whistle  (while  you  work  it)   •  My  concept  for  this  music  video  is  to  be  fun  and  bright.   The  song  itself  is  up  beat  and  has  quite  a  catchy  beat.  I   will  create  this  atmosphere  using  a  pasBche  as  my   choice  of  style.  This  will  allow  the  viewers  to  see  a  style   of  performance  yet  also  be  able  to  follow  a  narraBve.   My  performance  style  will  be  dance,  as  my  concept  is   to  have  dancers  in  different  locaBons  portraying  a   story.  The  song  is  ‘Whistle  (while  you  work  it)’  so  the   story  will  be  about  having  a  good  Bme  and  just   enjoying  what  life  has  to  offer.    
  • 4. Genre & Codes / Conventions •  The  genre  of  ‘Whistle  (while  you  work  it)’  is  Pop.  It  is   upbeat  and  has  a  good  tune  to  sing  along  to.   •  There  are  many  codes  and  convenBons  that  this  music   video  will  display.  Some  of  the  symbolic  convenBons   being  costume,  makeup,  lighBng,  colour,  reoccurring   set–ups.  The  make  up  and  the  costumes  will  be  bright   and  colourful  to  help  create  that  bright  aspect  and   feeling.  The  technical  convenBons  that  I  will  use  will  be   ediBng,  different  use  of  camera  angles,  music  and   sound.  All  of  these  different  components  add  together   to  create  an  effecBve  final  product  for  the  viewer.  
  • 5. Target Audience •  My  target  audience  is  teenagers.  This  music  video   will  appeal  to  them  because  it  is  bright  and  fun.  It   contains  dance  and  in  this  day  and  age  dance  is   becoming  something  that  more  and  more  people   are  loving  to  go  and  watch.  It  will  also  appeal  to   teenagers  as  it  is  a  performance.  Not  a  lot  of   thinking  is  involved.  They  are  able  to  just  sit  and   watch  and  enjoy  the  video.  This  will  also  appeal   to  people  other  than  teenagers  as  they  will  be   able  to  look  back  and  it  might  spark  memories  of   the  bright  happy  childhood  that  they   experienced.      
  • 6. Tone •  The  tone  of  my  music  video  is  bubbly,  bright,  happy   and  fun.  All  of  these  moods  will  be  shown  through  this   video.  This  tone  will  be  created  using  codes  and   convenBons.  Such  as  costume,  lighBng,  colour,  set-­‐ups,   make  up,  camera  angles.  All  of  these  will  help  to  create   and  set  the  tone  /  mood.  An  example  of  these  codes   and  convenBons  helping  to  set  the  tone  is  using  a  wide   shot  to  include  seOng  and  the  performance,  (dancers   having  fun).  This  shows  the  audience  and  helps  to   show  the  bright  seOng  and  a  lot  of  the  performers.   Using  costume  and  make  up  the  dancers  are  able  to   look  bubbly  and  pop  with  colour.  This  then  creates  a   happy  fun  mood  for  the  viewers.  
  • 7. Props •  Props  are  effecBve  and  give  the  audience   something  else  to  look  at.  They  are  a  visual   aQracBon  and  can  help  the  audience  focus  on   something  which  can  be  integrated  into  the   video.  Props  I  will  use  will  be  things  such  as   bright  coloured  ribbons  to  symbolize  and   contrast  my  ‘pop  of  colour’  theme.  Props  can   also  be  used  as  moBfs  to  show  an  effecBve   underlying  story.    
  • 9. Setting •  The  seOng  for  my  music  video  will  vary.  This  is   because  I  will  use  different  locaBons  to  portray   my  tone  which  is  bright  and  fun.  The  seOngs  will   include  places  such  as  the  beach,  a  big  field,  an   old  barn.  All  of  these  places  will  have  a   performance  being  filmed  throughout  the  seOng.   The  seOng  will  also  show  colour  and  I  will  be  able   to  set  certain  convenBons  based  on  the  seOng.   All  of  these  seOngs  fit  with  my  product  as  the   song  is  all  about  fun  and  happiness.  It  is  also   about  making  the  best  out  of  what  life  has  come   to  and  ‘whistling  while  you  work  it’  
  • 11. Costume •  These  costumes  will  all  add  to  the  tone  and  be   effecBve  in  this  music  video.  All  of  these   costumes  are  colourful  and  help  make  someone   else  feel  happy.  Using  bright  colours  is  aQracBve   to  the  eye  and  draws  aQenBon.  Another  reason   why  the  audience  is  capBvated.  Hair  will  be  up  off   the  face  to  show  full  emoBon.  Make  up  will  be   over  the  top  to  show  fun  and  liveliness.  It  will   portray  ‘a  pop  of  colour.  Bright  different  coloured   lip  sBcks  and  blushed  cheeks.  Eye  makeup  will  be   accentuated  to  pop  with  colour  and  give  off  a  fun   tone.  
  • 12. Structure •  The  structure  of  my  music  video  will  be  cut  to  the   beat.  I  have  chosen  this  strcuture  because  I  can   cut  between  performances  quicker  as  the  beat   gets  faster  and  faster.  This  is  eye  appealing  and  is   something  that  looks  natural  to  watch.  I  will  cut   from  locaBon  to  locaBon,  gradually  geOng  faster   and  faster  as  the  end  of  the  video  approaches.   This  is  to  speed  things  up  and  keep  the  audience   interested  unBl  the  end.  This  is  also  a  way  to   include  more  footage  into  you  video.  I  am  also  
  • 13. cuOng  it  to  the  beat  because  it  is  something  that   works  well  with  the  song.  The  song  has  a  good   rhythm  to  cut  our  video  to.  It  also  speeds  up  at   the  end  which  makes  it  easy  to  incorporate  the   idea  about  the  end  clips  being  faster.  CuOng  to   the  beat  will  make  the  video  effecBve  and  be   aQracBve  to  the  audience.  This  structure  will  also   appeal  to  my  target  audience  as  teenagers  enjoy   watching  things  which  are  fast  and  snappy.   Because  the  ending  speeds  up  this  also  wraps  it   up  so  that  the  video  doesn’t  draw  out.  Rather   than  tapering  on  the  video  will  finish  on  a  beat  as   this  is  how  the  song  has  been  composed.  
  • 14. Overall •  Overall  this  video  should  portray  a  posiBve   vibe  and  give  off  a  bright  and  happy  feel.  All  of   these  different  components  will  work   together  and  I  will  be  able  to  produce  a  video   that  is  appealing  to  my  target  audience.   Whistle  (while  you  work  it)  is  a  catchy  song   and  is  a  song  that  is  fun  to  listen  to.  It  makes   you  feel  energeBc  so  this  video  will  show  the   energy  shown  through  the  beat  and  tone  that   is  given  off  by  this  song.
