Parents’ Role in children
Learning
Introduction
Children who learn only at home have an
individual learning experience, whereas children who
learn in school do so through relationships. Learning
through relationships is more reflective of the adult
world in which people contribute to society by
working together. Children in school systems hear
other people’s ideas and viewpoints. They learn to
merge different beliefs to create their own values and
principles. In a school setting children learn to listen
to various thoughts before forming their own
opinions. There are more advantages that we could
get by sending our children to school.
Problems occurred
Parents expressed
some issues regarding
students poor
performance in learning
Mathematics, Science
and English language.
1. Lack of interest and
motivation.
Cause and effect
If students attribute their success to their innate
talents rather than effort, they may not be
motivated to work. Students in school do not
believe that their efforts will improve their
performance. If students do not belief that their
efforts are likely to improve their performance,
they will not be motivated to work hard.
Lack of interest and motivation.
Solutions
Parents:
a) Can nurture our child’s interest by providing
opportunities for them to explore and learn about
their interests.
b) Expose our children to new ideas and areas by
participating in community programs and not just
school programs.
c) Attempt them suing short term goals and rewards
since sometimes as child becomes overwhelmed by
a large task.
Lack of interest and motivation.
Solutions
Parents:
d) We could help our children learn to arrange time
e) Praise our children’s efforts since some children
have trouble connecting personal effort to
achievement.
f) help our children take control.
g) keep a positive attitude about school
h) help our children make a connection between their
schoolwork and their interests.
2. Students do not understanding the
language used in the subjects.
Cause and effect
Some researchers believed that students
become confused about the meaning of words
in Mathematics and Science lessons because
in certain subjects the meanings of the
languages used are different. Based on this
matter, students cannot answer the questions
correctly and it brings them to failure.
2. Students do not understand the
language used in the subjects.
Solutions
Parents:
a) can monitor and facilitate their work or study at
home.
b) check their books and their work at home because
some teachers will give them homework.
c) ask some teachers to give extra class for our children
3. Lack of confidence in their
learning.
Cause and effect
Parents' attitudes are crucial to children's
feelings about themselves, particularly in
children's early years. However, if parents
encourage children's moves toward self-
reliance and accept and love their children
when they make mistakes, children will learn to
accept themselves and will be on their way to
developing self-confidence.
3. Lack of confidence in their
learning.
a) be careful of what we say because children can be
sensitive to parents' and others' words.
b) helping our children overcome disappointments can
really help them learn what they're good at and what
they're not so good at.
c) Nurture our own self-esteem and they'll have a
great role model.
Solutions
3. Lack of confidence in their
learning.
d) can give positive, accurate feedback such as, "I can
see you were very angry with your brother, but it
was nice that you were able to talk about it instead
of yelling or hitting."
e) watch for signs of abuse by others, problems in
school, trouble with peers, and other factors that
may affect children's self-esteem.
f) help our children become involved in constructive
experiences.
g) tell our children their aim in learning at school.
Solutions
4. Lack of discipline in learning.
Cause and effect
Discipline is paramount in learning. It is also
very important for peace and harmony in any
learning environment: peace between students,
teachers and administration. The teacher and
students relationship is essential for any
learning process. If there is a breakdown in this
relationship, indiscipline emerges. When
students are not motivated, they tend to work in
an indiscipline manner.
4. Lack of discipline in learning.
a) put the time and energy in so that they know that
they matters in your life - you share a smile, a good
word, a laugh, a story, or a meal together.
b) talk to our child every day-even if it’s just for a few
minutes.
c) Speak to our child in the tone and with the words
that you wish they would use with others.
d) Express our love every day, no matter how tough
the day.
Solutions
5. Classroom environment
Cause and effect
The environment in the classroom is dirty and
old. It is a stressful place if the classroom is not
a comfortable place to have a teaching and
learning process.
Solutions
a) help the teachers in cleaning and decorating
the classroom during weekends .
b) help teachers in making their teaching aids
with guidance.
Conclusion
Children learn best when the significant adults in their
lives, parents, teachers, and other family and
community members. We work together to encourage
and support them. This basic fact should be a guiding
principle as we think about how schools should be
organized and how children should be taught. Schools
alone cannot address all of a child's developmental
needs: The meaningful involvement of parents and
support from the community are essential. I hope that
we could hand in hand as a big family to help the
students achieve their aims in learning and to have
better education.
Thank You
