Cobb Museum Paper
The Cobb Institute Museum at Mississippi State University displays items from the Old World and
the New World. When I visited the museum I noticed a wide variety of artifacts. The Old world side
contained pieces from many Old World countries, while the New World side featured a lot of pieces
that are from local areas. Since there was such a vast number of artifacts at the Cobb Museum, I
have decided to focus on the clay vessels and etchings in the Old and New World.
In the section of ceramics form Israel's Iron Age II, there were a lot of pots and vessels. A four–room
house in the Halif settlement is where the Archeologists found the ... Show more content on

I was glad to see that some of the pots were setting upside down. I liked how I was able to see what
the bottoms looked like. The Cobb Museum had a collection of Old World oil lamps. One lamp was
cream colored and teardrop shaped. The top was adorned with a thin u–shaped decoration. Small
etched circles added a decorated touch. The top of the lamp had a small looped handle. At the back
of the case there was an interesting oil lamp. It was tan colored with hints of red. The handle looked
like the back fin of a whale. Next to the spout was a floral design. Two gazelles with long, thin horns
graced the sides of the lamp (http://www.cobb.msstate.edu/museum/). The lamp that stood out the
most was a black lamp with four spouts from Rome (Cobb). It was the only displayed lamp with
multiple spouts. Two of the spouts were missing, but it was obvious where the missing ones would
have been. The two remaining spouts had wide openings. The lamp had protruding triangles
between each spout to give the lamp a diamond shape. All of the oil lamps in Cobb were varied and
unique. The replica of the Rosetta Stone was obviously one of the most interesting pieces in the
museum. I am ashamed to admit that prior to taking Anthropology, I did not know what the Rosetta
Stone was. This very important artifact was made in 196 B.C. It is a shiny black stone with three
different sections of writings: ancient Greek, a Demotic script, and Egyptian hieroglyphs

Black Holes Essay
Black Holes
The American scientist John Wheeler coined the phrase "black hole" in 1969 to describe a massively
compact star with such a strong gravitational field that light cannot escape. When a star's central
reserve of hydrogen is depleted, the star begins to die. Gravity causes the center to contract to higher
and higher temperatures, while the outer regions swell up, and the star becomes a red giant. The star
then evolves into a white dwarf, where most of its matter is compressed into a sphere roughly the
size of Earth. Some stars continue to evolve, and their centers contract to even higher densities and
temperatures until their nuclear reserves are exhausted and only their gravitational energy remain.
The core then rushes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rays of light leaving a gravitating body are curved, and become more curved as the body shrinks.
When the radius of the body is less than the radius of the photon sphere, a radius 1.5 times the
Schwartzschild radius where the light rays circularly orbit a black hole, the exit cone begins to close.
Rays within the exit cone escape while those outside are trapped and fall back. Since the photon
sphere orbits are unstable, if a circulating rays is disturbed slightly, it either spirals around and is
captured or spirals out and escapes at radius 3^.5=1.732 times that of the photon sphere. Both
redshift and deflection allow no radiation to escape (Harrison 248–250).
At large distances from the black hole, gravity is weak and spacetime is the same as spacetime in
special relativity. Close to the black hole, however, spacetime is deformed, causing differences in
space and time between the stationary and distant observer. The effect of spacetime curvature near a
black hole is such that lightcones are tilted so that the future lightcones tip toward the black hole. At
the surface of the black hole (the event horizon), all rays emitted fall into the black hole. And no
rays from the past are received from the black hole. A particle passing into a black hole receives no
information of what lies ahead, and reaches the singularity in a time t= Rs /c. To a distant observer,
however, it takes an infinite time for the

Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, "The Lottery", by Shirley Jackson, "The

during an atomic war, and there is no adult supervision. "The Lottery" takes place in a
small farming community in the present day. "The White Circle" is set in the turn of the

Dark Skinned Women
Ever since slavery started when the first African– Americans were brought to the North American
colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the production of crops such as tobacco; the
controversy of skin color in the black community began (Slavery in America). It is a legacy of
slavery and plantation society that placed white slave–owners at the top of the social ladder,
followed by those who were mixed race/lighter skinned–– who were given work in the house, with
the added job title of being the master's mistress, and lastly the darker skinned black men and
women, who were also raped and treated like they were animals – at the bottom of the ladder doing
the backbreaking labor in the fields. While, the physical chains of slavery may ... Show more

Black Identity And Missing Identity
Boo! Ghosts are the most popular halloween costumes with children. Perhaps the popularity comes
from the idea that children like hiding their true identity, a fascination that will continue into
adulthood. In Native Guard, Natasha Trethewey is a half white and half black woman who has
trouble incorporating her black heritage into her life therefore missing a piece of her identity. In
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, characters described as a phantom or shade indicate missing or
different identities. In The Circle by Dave Eggers, the employees live through what the circle tells
and have no original ideas which stems from their missing identity. them Ghosts are the soul of a
once living person, but they are incomplete in that they are missing emotions or major
characteristics of a human. Because of these missing pieces, ghosts represent missing identity.
In Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey, the poet has a difficult time letting both her white father and
black mothers culture into her life and her black culture is described as ghostlike because the black
culture is the missing part of her true identity. The Civil War divided the United States which most
people try to forget. Although Americans would like to pretend that slavery and inequality never
happened in the United States, the unjust actions continue as a part of history and is still represented
with " the fields of cotton, hallowed ground– as slave legend goes–each boll holding the ghosts of
generations" according

How Does Virgil Use Dante's Inferno As An Allegory
Of several primary sources available from the Renaissance Era, Dante's Inferno gives us clear
insight into aspects of Florentine society during the Renaissance. Dante uses his comedy as an
allegory to serve as a commentary/critique on the Florentine Renaissance. Throughout the poem,
Dante refers to authors, characters and other mythological beings from Classical mythology. The
poet Homer, the mathematician Euclid and several other "virtuous pagans" including other figures in
Classical literature are found in Limbo, the 1st Circle of Hell. Virgil, the poet who wrote "The
Aeneid" serves as Dante's guide and protector through Hell and subsequently into Purgatory. This is
due to the resurgence of Classical culture in the western world and the development of Humanism.
Dante is believed to have written Inferno in the early 14th century, during the decline of
Constantinople– the previous capital of Classical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the Roman Catholic Church's conception, is whether or not the church should have power
over the secular world. Dante was a proponent of Imperial politics and the separation of church from
state affairs. This is evident when he tries to predict the revival of the Holy Roman Empire and
idolizes Julius Caesar and other monumental secular leaders. The church and the papacy had grown
in power and importance throughout the Middle Ages, and this trend continued into the Renaissance.
In Florence, there were political parties that supported papal power over state matters and groups
that opposed such power. Dante was a member of the Guelph, the party that opposed papal influence
over state affairs and acted to prevent the Pope from controlling government. The Ghibellines were
opposite of the Guelph, they wanted papal power over secular matters. The Guelph eventually
defeated the Ghibellines, subsequently splitting into two parties– the White and Black

The Corruption Of Dante's Inferno By Dante Alighieri
Many authors have attempted to write a text that will stand the test of time yet few have been
successful. Dante Alighieri was the exception. In the early 1300s, Dante wrote The Divine Comedy.
It was separated into three parts: The Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise. Although all of them were
well written, all agree that The Inferno was the most intriguing. Once read, it is quickly understood
that Dante's Inferno was actually a book of revenge against those that were not politically aligned
with Dante's beliefs. In 1265, Dante Alighieri was born in Florence, Italy. His political views were
shaped early in life due to the intensity of the political battles in Florence. At that time, Italy was
split politically between the Guelphs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In life, Abati belonged to the Ghibelline party but remained in Florence after they were run out of
the city under the guise of a Guelph. He pretended to fight on the Guelph side in a battle set at
Montaperti, near Siena, as part of the cavalry. In a heated moment of battle, he cut off the hand of
the flag bearer for the Guelphs. This sent the remaining forces into a panic and because of his
vengeance the Ghibellines won a remarkable victory. When Dante enters the ninth circle, Abati
refuses to tell his name but encourages Dante's anger by mentioning the battle site. Dante pulled
larges pieces of hair from Abati's head but he would not give up his name. A fellow sufferer gives
Abati's name and upon learning Abati's identity, Dante kicks him in the face because he sees him as
a political traitor. Throughout the conversation, Abati cannot keep his mouth shut. As in other
circles, Dante may have made this name fit the character as "Bocca" is the word for mouth in

The Theme Of Family In The Black Balloon
For my creative task, I chose to represent the theme of family in The Black Balloon, directed by
Elissa Down, with a visual interpretation of how the family works with their hardships to support
each other and Charlie. I made a visual expression because it allowed me to show the multiple
points of view that there always is in a family environmentI used the colour black in my visual piece
to represent difficulty getting through to Charlie through his autism. The different segments of the
circle have colours chosen based on colour psychology and the impact colours have on peoples
emotions and perception.

centre. The black lines symbolise jail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She exhibits these in all of her interactions with tough situations regarding Charlie, she is
consistently caring for her family and leading them from a positive outlook.
Simon is represented by the brown third with a black maze leading to the centre. The black maze
symbolises the blocks that Simon encounters when he is trying to look after his family. He uses
humour to get past a lot of these issues, but he still struggles through twists and turns to reach
through to Charlie in the middle. This is shown when Maggie goes to hospital, leaving Simon in
charge and he is struggling to give Charlie his medicine and get him organised for school. Simon's
segment is brown because it represents the reliability and security of the Earth. He shows his
protection for his family when he yells at his neighbours after they harrassed Charlie and when he
instructs Maggie that "We're going to the hospital" in order to take care of his family.
Charlie is represented by the orange balloon in the middle of the circle. Charlie is in the middle
because he is what is drawing the others together as a stronger family. Charlie's circle doesn't have
any black areas because his actions make perfect sense to him. I chose a balloon to symbolise
Charie's childlike innocence and to show the irony of comparing the freedom of a balloon with
Charlie's confinement in his house due to his autism. Charlie is represented in the colour orange
because it has been connected to feelings of vibrance

Prejudice Is The Wall In To Kill A Mockingbird
Walls are built for the purpose of division. Similarly, Harper Lee, in the classic novel To Kill a
Mockingbird, emphasizes that prejudice is the wall that divides human race. The story takes place in
Maycomb, Alabama, during the times of The Great Depression. The town of Maycomb had
prejudice deep down in its roots, and racism was considered a disease that people caught. The main
character, Jean Louise Finch also known as Scout, witnesses first–hand the spread of prejudice
before and after Tom Robinson, an innocent black man, was accused of raping a white woman, and
sentenced to death by a racist white jury. She learns that the majority of the white population are
prejudiced, simply because it was a usual stereotype. Through the use of characterization of the
racist townsfolk and the narrow–minded ladies from the missionary circle, Lee proves that prejudice
is a learned behavior, and is passed on by others. Prejudice influences children the most, because it
is going to be the environment that they will grow up in. When Atticus, Scout's heroic father, takes
over Tom Robinson's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humans can destroy walls that are built, but the remains are still deep in our memories, just like
prejudice. Although the civil rights movements did "re–liberate" the blacks, the remains of prejudice
still stand firmly in people's mind, and many are still facing the problems of discrimination. Nelson
Mandela once said, " No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his
background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be
taught to love, for love comes more naturally to a human heart than its opposite" (Mandela).
Prejudice is taught, but love can also be taught in a way to combat prejudice. It is much simpler to
love and care for someone than it is to

Television 's Impact On America 's Society Essay
Fox's television shows, Glee, was an introduction to the frequent 'social issues' teenagers in America
faced daily. Glee is a musical comedy drama. The cast are majority Caucasians and addressed topics
commonly faced by children such as "cyber bullying, schools shootings, suicides" are just to name a
few many issues. Once Glee's season ended, Fox has always been a trendy television station. Fox
needed an innovative television show to satisfy their audience. The entrance of Fox's television
shows "Empire". "Empire is a powerful drama about a family dynasty set within the glamorous and
sometimes dangerous world of hip–hop music" 1(Fox.com/Empire). Like 'Glee', Fox's drama show
Empire addresses a number of social issues as well that 'currently plague America's society',
specifically the African American community, such as 'homosexuality', 'mental illness', and 'police
brutality'.
'Empire's main characters are the 'Lyons, a successful African American family in the hip–hop music
industry, who fight over who will run the family's business: Empire entertainment. Power, sex,
drugs, and violence are among the key plot points; however, Empire consistently includes social
issues that affect the African American community within the plot. Lucious Lyon (Terrance Howard)
considered the "king of hip–hop" and his ex–wife Cookie Lyon (Tarji P. Henson) are the founders of
Empire. Together they had three sons: Hakeem (Bryshere Gray), Jamal (Jussie Smollett), and Andre

Graphic Incognito Analysis
According to article "Graphic Incognito", writer Mark Owens says that modernism exported to
America through Bauhaus, which was a European movement that came around World War 2. The
movement in America took shape in the 1980s with the influence of a new cultural era that was
personified in different mediums, especially in music. He argues that certain modernist design
tactics were adopted by suburban kids raised during the Reagan era in the early 1980s that were in
the post– punk, hardcore, underground music scene. First of all, he begins his essay with a quote
from Paul Rand about how "timeless principles" were the only hope to achieve a style of quality in
one's work. In this essay, Mark Owens collocate the theoretical principals ... Show more content on

With the more clear sense, he mentions that the use of primary colors and abstract forms is the
feature of modernist graphic abstraction, which extends back to the Bauhaus. He notes the Germ's

flanked on top and bottom by two white rules and simple all caps Helvetica reading GERMS along

members. In addition to that, he states that Graphic abstraction in particular, shaped the visual
language of underground music and culture. Moreover, Mark Owens indicate that the punk band

Why Do Termites Walk In Circle
Furthermore, our experiment portrayed that termites are blind and they walk in circles because they
can smell the pheromones in the BIC pen causing it to walk in that direction. For example, when we
drew a circle with a black color pencil, the termites simply roamed around and walked across the
paper. This shows how the termites completely ignored the circle because the pheromones in a color
pencil aren't very strong causing them to not recognize the circle. On the other hand, when we drew
a circle with black ink, the termites started to walk along the path proving that they can smell the ink
causing them to follow the trail. The class results above primarily state the given fact that termites

Reticulitermes termites can be found in most southeastern regions because of the warm and humid
conditions. The termites in this experiment are housed inside a petri dish that can be described as
pale insects three to twenty millimeters long in body length, and can also be commonly known as
"white ants". Termites live in organized colonies and are defined by divisions of labor. Termites are
also considered to be social insects inside their colonies where they work together to bring food and
water back to their colonies for survival. There are different levels in a termite colony, which consist
of workers, soldiers, and reproductive (Watson, 1985). Termite workers in the colony forage for

Termites Behavior Lab Report
After completing the lab The Effect Colors of Pen have on Termites Behavior it could be identified
that termites like black pens the most and prefer to follow an ink line. In both trials the termites
seemed to avoid the squares for the most part, but when they got near one they would walk around
the outside of the square. Out of all the colors it was evident black was the preffered color because
they spend 11 seconds inside that square 2 seconds in the blue, and 3 seconds in the red. While this
seems like a short period of time considering each trial was 2 minutes long the termites spend a
good majority of that time near the black square which we did not put into our data table. If three
squares are drawn in different colors, then the termites will mostly stay in the red square, because it
likely has the strongest scent. This was the hypothesis made in the beginning of the experiment and
it was rejected based off the lab results. The termites defintely prefered the white portion of the
paper and also liked the black pen the most as they spent most of their time in the white or walking
around the black square. According to Joe Culin from Clemson University this is because the pen's

which was another large source of error. This affected the experiment because the new termite

What Is The Purpose Of The Church?
The interior of the church was dimly lit, only the light from the eight candles at the center of the
altar parted the darkness that blanketed the rest of the church's interior. The candles were arranged in
a circle that was perfectly symmetrical. In the center of the circle sat a strange looking stone
fragment. The jagged shard appeared to have a marble luster to it and, despite being centuries–old,
was still as beautiful as ever. Someone stood overlooking the circle, a young boy who was just out
of his teens, perhaps in his early 20s. He was only about five–and–a–half feet tall and was by no

with the winner of the War gaining access to the Holy Grail, a Singularity capable of granting any

motivating enough to warrant your interest in joining that death battle. Tell me, what kind of wish do

The Oak Tree Creative Writing
Throwing open the screen door, he steps outside with exhilaration brewing in his body. As the screen
door closes with a slam, he inhales the sweet scent of the countryside grass and scans the backyard.
It is littered with trees; amongst the ocean of green grass, he sees the biggest tree standing in the
middle: the old oak tree. Standing prouder than all the others, its vibrant green leaves touch the blue
sky. Looking under the oak tree, he sees what he has been looking for. Hanging from the thick oak
branches is a brown woven rope. The sturdy rope is tied around the object of his fascination: an old
piece of rubber.
He runs out toward it and within a second, he is facing it. The ancient rope, worn from weather, has
small strings sticking out. Under the worn rope is the black rubber, once a stark coal color, but from
its present condition, it is clear that it has survived extreme weather. Decades earlier, the black

Meet Joe Black: The Circle Of Life
When one door closes, another one opens. This is a philosophy that is believed by many people, and
it is a way that some view life in order to stay optimistic. Not always is the opening of another door
obvious or immediate, but it will come. This idea directly relates to the circle of life, and how when
a life is ended, a new one will be created. The movie Meet Joe Black portrays the theme of the circle
of life with Bill Parish dying, and the man from the coffee shop living. Death is only thing in life
that is inevitable. There are times people can tip toe around death and put themselves in near death
situations, but one day or another it will come to everybody. Bill Parish experiences this first hand
when he meets Joe Black. After his first conversation with Joe, Bill knew that his life would be
ending soon and there was no way around it. Bill, being a business man, tried to bargain and come
to an agreement with death, but no one can argue their way out of death. Mr. Parish was lucky
enough to have his time be put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is commonly seen by a new life being created, but it can also mean that someone's life is saved.
That is what happened to the young man from the coffee shop. Soon after being hit by multiple cars
and presumably dead, he showed up in Bill's house as death. The audience at this point assumes that
he is dead and is about to bring death to the next person in line, Bill Parish. This is true up until the
final moments of the movie. Joe and Bill walk beyond eyesight from the party, and then Joe comes
back. But he has no recollection of the past couple of days or how he had gotten to the spot he was
at. At this point he is no longer Joe Black, or death, but his original self. He has no injuries or any
sign that he had been in any circumstance that dying was a possibility, which shows that him living
was a gift. In the perspective of the circle of life, this is the life that occurred when death took

What Role Does Satan Play In Dante's Inferno
Satan is shown as unbelievably tall with three faces and six wings. Satan was red which showed
anger, white with yellow to show impotence, and black which demonstrated ignorance. Luifer is
placed at the bottom of the slope in hell because he was a an evil angel from God and he betrayed
which caused him to go to hell, in this part of hell he is with Judas Iscariot and Julius Caesar and
Cassius and Brutus. Although, Satan's character makes readers very eager to meet in Inferno by
Dante Alighieri Satan's look is not satisfying to readers, Satan does surprise the reader, and Satan's
stance in the Inferno is important. And also in the Inferno Dante surprises the reader by giving Satan

Dante had thought that Satan was just evil. In the circle that Lucifer is in is very cold and it is very
impossible for someone to escape this circle in hell because it is so icey. In circle 9 it is "The more
he flapped his wings in his attempt to escape from the ice, the harder the wind from his wings froze
the ice, making his escape impossible" (Dante). For Lucifer it was very difficult for him to escape
this circle because of the ice, the ice is so powerful that it would bring Lucifer to failure if he were
to attempt to leave his circle. Dante's depiction was very different to the actual Satan in hell because
he was monstrous he has one head and three faces, he was not a normal monster he was very
monstrous. Dante thought that he would look way different he did not expect that. "Lucifer in the
same way I had left him; And I beheld him upward hold his legs. And then I became disquieted..."
(Dante). In Inferno Dante did not expect to see Lucifer at all like this he never imagined him like
this. In continuation, Satan is considered to be a very huge person, In Dante it is said that Dante and

What Are The Differences In To Kill A Mockingbird
A world renowned novel, with over twelve million copies sold can only be expressed in words,
except when it is also expressed in pictures. Can the pictures convey the same lessons and morals
expressed in words? To Kill a Mockingbird is a timeless novel about a fictional town in Alabama
called Maycomb in the 1930's. To Kill a Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and the movie was
directed by Robert Patrick Mulligan. Scout Finch, the story's narrator, and her brother, Jem, live a
traditional southern life. While trying to find their elusive neighbor, Boo Radley, and their dad
defending a black person in a white person's trial after being asked by the judge, they learn different
morals from the people and the circumstances around them. ... Show more content on

acceptance and understanding other people's situations through the use of the characters that are

Black Elk Speaks by John Neihardt
Black Elk Speaks, a personal narrative, has the features of many different genres. The different
genres that I noticed were in the book were, autobiography, testimonial, tribal history, and elegy.
Black Elk Speaks is divided into 25 chapters, which portray the early life of Black Elk. The author
tells us that Black Elk was a healer and a great holy man. He was said to have this mystical vision
since he was young. As a tribal history, it shows the change of the Sioux nation from pre–reservation
to reservation culture, including their partaking in the ghost dance, the Battle of Little Big Horn, and
Wounded Knee. Black Elk Speaks propositions testament to the price in human grief that the Sioux
had to pay for the United States expanding westward. It grieves his cultural misplacement and the
age of being innocent and being free.
Black lk Speaks is framed with a preace and Author's postscript. This reminds the readers of an
editing presence. Neihardt explains the circumstances, when he talked to black elk. Initial to the
description of the great vision are chapters 1 and 2. The actual great vision is mentioned in chapter
3. Chapter 3 was definidtly the longest and the hardest to understand in the book. Chapter 3 was
about Black Elk and his confisence in the author, Neihardt, and it also describes the first couple
years in Black Elks younger days. This includes the first time he heard "voices" when he was five. It
also describes the vision Black Elk saw when he was 5. Highly

Corruption In Dante's Inferno
During Dante Alighieri's journey through Hell in The Inferno, he comes across many citizens from
his own town of Florence. Through these characters, he reveals his opinions of Medieval Italian
society, particularly his scorn for many political and religious leaders. As a White Guelph, his exile
from Florence leads him to direct his feelings of anger and frustration into this book, which reveals
his hierarchy of derision; this hierarchy becomes evident the deeper Dante goes into Hell. His scorn,
accented with the prophecies made throughout his journey, begins with those who possessed
differing political beliefs from his own, increases with those who aided in political corruption, and is
most evident for those who committed acts of political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

those who caused political conflict in Florence. As the sins along with their punishments get worse,
we come across political tyrants, such as Dionysius I and II as well as Azzolino, whose acts of
cruelty while holding great power Dante despised. Dante also places sinners such as Giovanni di
Buiamonte in circle seven for being a usurer and gambler while at the same time being elected for
many high offices in Florence; he uses Buiamonte as a tool to communicate his frustration with the
Florentines for allowing corrupt individuals to attain such

How To Write A Class Observation
My own class observation was for my 1st grade class. The art specialist was Benjamin Bragonier
and lasted for one hour and thirty minutes. He was teaching the art lesson drawing with shapes

instructed to make circles by using black tip marker and going around and around until they got a
good circle. The circles were matted onto tag board and circular designs were place into the bigger
circles made by the students. The way that Mr. Bragonier showed the students the steps to the art

Punishment In Dante's Inferno
What is Hell? During the fourteenth century, Dante Alighieri was exiled from his home in Florence,
Italy and wrote The Devine Comedy: The Inferno while in exile. In this text, Dante gives detailed
descriptions of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. He wrote this poem in order to get revenge on the
political figures who had banished him. Walter Scott explained this perfectly in his book, The Heart
of Midlothian, "Revenge, the sweetest morsel to the mouth that ever was cooked in hell" (Scott). In
many ways, The Inferno was designed as a type of memoir to depict the sins that surrounded him in
Florence. In Dante's Inferno creates an imaginative connection between a soul's sinner on Earth and
the punishment the sinner receives in Hell.
The first example of Dante's "the punishment fits the crime" concept, in Inferno had to deal with the
wrathful and the sullen. In The Inferno, the fifth circle of hell is reserved for the wrathful and the
sullen. The wrathful are on the bank of the river Styx and are constantly fighting in the mud. Fitting
because they could not manage their anger in life. They spent their life fighting so they must fight
the mud for all eternity. Wrath and anger are both traits that are highly frowned upon even today. As

This circle is reserved for the flatterers. These sinners are buried in Excrement. Fitting due to the
fact that while in life, the excrement, or "BS", that came from their mouths, they now are drowning

flattered by a man" (Bronte). Though in the case of this text, gender does not necessarily matter.
Flatterers are flatterers no matter their gender, race, or social standing. However, despite all of those
factors, the punishment was still horrifyingly brutal. Hundreds of flatterers in a large river of
excrement is hardly an enjoyable way to spend an

The Poem ' Merry Go Round ' By Langston Hughes
Around and Around
In the poem, Merry–Go–Round by Langston Hughes, the first line exhbits a child asking the
question, "Where is the Jim Crow section?" ( Hughes, 1). This line refers to the Jim Crow of the
South that was established during the late 1800s to the 1960s. After the Civil War, freed slaves were
given opportunities to become real class citizens. Many White Southerners did not like the fact that
freed slaves were given the same rights as them and were using the same facilities, too. The name
Jim Crow was created by a minstrel show performer from New York named Thomas D. Rice. Rice
would wear "tattered clothing, burnt cork, and blackface mask" to disguise himself as poor Black
person (Huser & Sanders). He was supposedly imitating a black slave dancing, who he had met one
day. His show, which imitated and perpetrated stereotypes of black people, became very popular
with White people of the North and South. White people started believing these stereotypes about
Black people and used it to justify how superior they were (Huser& Sander). Jim Crow law was a
form of a racial caste system that was common throughout the Southern part of the United States
(Pilgrim, p1). Jim Crow laws helped settle the "separate, but equal" belief on public facilities such as
restrooms, restaurants, and schools for both Black and White citizens. Even though the laws said,
"separate but equal," a lot of time the public facilities for black citizens were subpar. The narrator of

Henry And Bronfenbrenner Essay
Kelly (1994) and Henry and Rickman (2007) apply similar conceptual frameworks of concentric
circles based on the ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner. Despite different research questions,
participants, methods, these two research projects are built on the same theoretical assumption that
human behaviors and the consequences of their behaviors are the outcomes of human interactions
with their own context. According to Bronfenbrenner's theory, each person is located in the core
circle entitled microsystems which often includes that person's family, school, peers, etc. Outside the
microsystem is the mesosystems where the interactions of related people in the microsystem
conduct with each other. In the next layer, exosystems, there are boarder communities that the
person lives in, for example, her/his neighborhood, the health care system, and so on. Macrosystems
which are the outer layer, refer to high–level structures such as culture and subcultures, economic
systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the primary interest in peer effects, which are embedded in the microsystems, Henry
and Rickman (2007) also measure potential factors from different circles. Also locating in the
microsystems, child characteristics, such as previous score, gender, race, and family characteristics,
such as income, education obtainment, and so on, are measured. In the larger layers, the researchers
examine the influence of program type and school inputs on children's skill test outcomes. It appears
that in this study and others on children's development, researchers often focus on the microsystems
and mesosystems while outer layers are rarely mentioned ("Handout: Understanding children in
context: The ecological model of human development," n.d., "Lecture Notes: Urie Bronfenbrenner,"

Black Elk Speaks Essay
Black Elk Speaks
Greed is a large part of the American culture whether we realize it as a society or not. Many
countries around the world view the United States as a selfish country that does what it wants on a
global scale, and does not share or allocate its predominate wealth. I am very thankful and proud to
be a citizen of this country. Even though I would risk my life to protect our country and its freedom,
there are aspects about our civilization that I wish could be different. Black Elk, "a holy man and a
warrior of the Lakota Nation Indians," was a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe during the most
horrific period for Native Americans in the Western part of the United States. In excerpts from the
novel of his life story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Land was not divided, it was shared. Teepees were set up in a circle and ceremonies and dances
were held in the center. Even when the Indians were short on something, they always managed to
share what they had with other tribes in need. They did not do this because they had to, it was the
code that they lived by. When a neighboring tribe of Black Elk's was on the move without any food
or clothing, they gave them as much food and clothing as possible even though they were short
themselves. Nature also played a large role in the Indian's lives. "Birds make their nests in circles,
for their religion is the same as ours" (APT 315). The traditional Sioux way of life created
interdependence between man and nature. Respect for the cycle of the seasons and animal life was
necessary in order to secure food, clothing, and shelter. When the Indians lived in cooperation with
nature, those necessities were available to them. They were available in such plenty, that their very
existence seemed proof of the care of the Great Spirit. Bison were very important to the Native
Americans. Even though they hunted and killed them they had great respect and love for them. They
only hunted what they needed to survive. When they did kill a bison, every part of it was used. The
meat was used for food, and the fur was used for clothes. The bones were even used as tools and
weapons. Nothing was wasted.
When white settlers, or Wasichus, began to take over the land the Indians had

The "Apaquogue, " was made in 1961 by Adolph Gottlieb, an American, It's oil on canvas and the
size is 72 ¼ x 90 ¼ inches. The canvas has three bright faded circles; they are red, pink and tan

colored red on this peach colored canvas is the brightest color. Gottliieb also has a pink, and tan
colored circle next to the red circle. It's like his anger slowly dimmed out and he found peace within
himself. Under the circles there is thick black paint brushed on the canvas. At first, I thought it was
some foreign language, but it doesn't seem very legible. He uses repetition by using three circles,
and the black paint brings out the whole

To Kill a Mocking Bird Hypocrisy Paper
To Kill a Mockingbird Term Paper
Imagine having your life completely destroyed by a fraudulent charge just because of the color of

Some of the most glaring examples of hypocrisy come from three female characters: Mrs. Dubose,

Examples Of Hypocrisy In To Kill A Mockingbird
Hypocrisy in To Kill a Mockingbird Hypocrisy is the practice of claiming you have moral standards
to which your behavior does comply to. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee there are many
examples of hypocrisy by different characters. In To Kill a Mockingbird the main character
Scout(Who is 6 years old at the beginning of the book) and her brother Jem are exposed to her
town's racism and hypocrisy when her father, Atticus, is defending a black man against a white
women in the 1930's fictional town of Maycomb. The hypocrisy of the town is shown by three
different characters that Scout meets and knows.

Mrs. Merriweather starts off the missionary circle by talking about J. Grimes Everett and what is
doing to "help" the Mruna tribe which is a black tribe who don't live by "family values" meaning the
tribe is all one big family. Mrs. Merriweather after explaining what Everett is going then says,"...
there's nothing more distracting than a sulky darky."(Lee Pg. 264) This quote shows how she can
feel sorry for the blacks only to then do the opposite and insult them. Another example is from
another essay from 123Help me called To Kill a Mockingbird(No Author). In the essay the author
explains Mrs. Merriweather and her Missionary circle by saying,"This clearly conveys the hypocrisy
of these women, as they go from sympathizing for the blacks, to completely disregarding and
insulting them." and also says,"This is deceiving because the whites' racism in Maycomb is what is
causing African Americans to suffer in their own town. This doesn't happen to concern Ms.
Merriweather, as she turns a blind eye to the maltreated in her own backyard." The author explains
that Mrs. Merriweather feels sorry for Black outside her town, but then seems to not care about the
blacks in her own community which shows how big of a hypocrite Mrs. Merriweather

Gestalt Psychology : How People Perceive Objects
1. Gestalt psychology attempts to explain how people perceive objects, particularly the way that
elements of an image are grouped together to create larger objects. The principle of figure–ground
notes that the organization of an image depends on what we see or identify as the figure or object
and what we see as ground or the background. One example of figure and ground could be words on
a page. Rather than perceiving the white of a page in a book as a large figure with small breaks in it
to represent the background, we see the words as the figure and the page as the ground. Another
more notable example is that of the faces–vase drawing in which there are black and white shapes.
When focusing on the white shapes, one may perceive the image as two faces facing each other in
front of a black background. When focusing on the black, one may see it as a vase with a white
background. The image is physically the same, but the perception of what is the figure and what is
the ground differs. The next principle is proximity in which objects are perceived as being grouped
together when they are placed near each other or close together. For example, if there are six dots
spread across a page evenly spaced, they will not be perceived as a group. If, however, three of those
dots are made to be closer together on the left side of the page and the other three dots are closer
together on the right, the viewer will interpret two groups based on the nearness of the set of dots.

there a driving force behind everything, or is it just all one colossal coincidence? Science has
provided a theory that may favor the prior. There seems to a link between Panpsychism, and both the
earthly and heavenly bodies of the universe. An artist by the name of Dan Christensen often uses the
same patterns in his paintings. Usually a giant dot in the center, and swirling loops. One example of
this is his piece, Revolver. The patterns he uses to paint we see examples of in, and outside of the

Exploring Artifacts at the Cobb Museum

  • 1. Cobb Museum Essay Kyle Walker Intro to Anthropology Dr. Jean Marcus November 16, 2012 Cobb Museum Paper The Cobb Institute Museum at Mississippi State University displays items from the Old World and the New World. When I visited the museum I noticed a wide variety of artifacts. The Old world side contained pieces from many Old World countries, while the New World side featured a lot of pieces that are from local areas. Since there was such a vast number of artifacts at the Cobb Museum, I have decided to focus on the clay vessels and etchings in the Old and New World. In the section of ceramics form Israel's Iron Age II, there were a lot of pots and vessels. A four–room house in the Halif settlement is where the Archeologists found the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was glad to see that some of the pots were setting upside down. I liked how I was able to see what the bottoms looked like. The Cobb Museum had a collection of Old World oil lamps. One lamp was cream colored and teardrop shaped. The top was adorned with a thin u–shaped decoration. Small etched circles added a decorated touch. The top of the lamp had a small looped handle. At the back of the case there was an interesting oil lamp. It was tan colored with hints of red. The handle looked like the back fin of a whale. Next to the spout was a floral design. Two gazelles with long, thin horns graced the sides of the lamp (http://www.cobb.msstate.edu/museum/). The lamp that stood out the most was a black lamp with four spouts from Rome (Cobb). It was the only displayed lamp with multiple spouts. Two of the spouts were missing, but it was obvious where the missing ones would have been. The two remaining spouts had wide openings. The lamp had protruding triangles between each spout to give the lamp a diamond shape. All of the oil lamps in Cobb were varied and unique. The replica of the Rosetta Stone was obviously one of the most interesting pieces in the museum. I am ashamed to admit that prior to taking Anthropology, I did not know what the Rosetta Stone was. This very important artifact was made in 196 B.C. It is a shiny black stone with three different sections of writings: ancient Greek, a Demotic script, and Egyptian hieroglyphs ... • 3. Black Holes Essay Black Holes The American scientist John Wheeler coined the phrase "black hole" in 1969 to describe a massively compact star with such a strong gravitational field that light cannot escape. When a star's central reserve of hydrogen is depleted, the star begins to die. Gravity causes the center to contract to higher and higher temperatures, while the outer regions swell up, and the star becomes a red giant. The star then evolves into a white dwarf, where most of its matter is compressed into a sphere roughly the size of Earth. Some stars continue to evolve, and their centers contract to even higher densities and temperatures until their nuclear reserves are exhausted and only their gravitational energy remain. The core then rushes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rays of light leaving a gravitating body are curved, and become more curved as the body shrinks. When the radius of the body is less than the radius of the photon sphere, a radius 1.5 times the Schwartzschild radius where the light rays circularly orbit a black hole, the exit cone begins to close. Rays within the exit cone escape while those outside are trapped and fall back. Since the photon sphere orbits are unstable, if a circulating rays is disturbed slightly, it either spirals around and is captured or spirals out and escapes at radius 3^.5=1.732 times that of the photon sphere. Both redshift and deflection allow no radiation to escape (Harrison 248–250). At large distances from the black hole, gravity is weak and spacetime is the same as spacetime in special relativity. Close to the black hole, however, spacetime is deformed, causing differences in space and time between the stationary and distant observer. The effect of spacetime curvature near a black hole is such that lightcones are tilted so that the future lightcones tip toward the black hole. At the surface of the black hole (the event horizon), all rays emitted fall into the black hole. And no rays from the past are received from the black hole. A particle passing into a black hole receives no information of what lies ahead, and reaches the singularity in a time t= Rs /c. To a distant observer, however, it takes an infinite time for the ... Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, "The Lottery", by Shirley Jackson, "The White Circle", by John Bell Clayton and "The Vigilante" by John Steinbeck all share the theme of mans inherent evil. Lord of the Flies takes place on an island in the Pacific ocean during an atomic war, and there is no adult supervision. "The Lottery" takes place in a small farming community in the present day. "The White Circle" is set in the turn of the century Virginia on a Large farm. "The Vigilante" takes place down south in a town with strong racist beliefs. Spill his blood" P.138).In particular the evil of the character is also present in the towns people when they brutally stone Tess out of tradition. (" 'It isn't fair' she said. ("I was lying there with a towering homicidal detestation, planning to kill Anvil."P.34). Also when Mike lynches the black man he is now getting a positive feeling from his crime. ("Makes you feel kind of cut off and tired, but kind of satisfied too"P.140). The inherent evil of man and society portrayed through the characters are present in these examples and shows how evil isn't always visible. The setting influences the inherent evil of man because it set the mood for the characters behaviors. The unsupervised island played a major role in the decay of civilization and the return to primitiveness. ("This is an island. At least I think its an island. Perhaps there aren't any grownups anywhere." P.7). For the Townspeople the time of year for the lottery is an uneasy time where a great deal of suspense builds up all around them. Dark Skinned Women Ever since slavery started when the first African– Americans were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, to aid in the production of crops such as tobacco; the controversy of skin color in the black community began (Slavery in America). It is a legacy of slavery and plantation society that placed white slave–owners at the top of the social ladder, followed by those who were mixed race/lighter skinned–– who were given work in the house, with the added job title of being the master's mistress, and lastly the darker skinned black men and women, who were also raped and treated like they were animals – at the bottom of the ladder doing the backbreaking labor in the fields. • 9. Black Identity And Missing Identity Boo! Ghosts are the most popular halloween costumes with children. Perhaps the popularity comes from the idea that children like hiding their true identity, a fascination that will continue into adulthood. In Native Guard, Natasha Trethewey is a half white and half black woman who has trouble incorporating her black heritage into her life therefore missing a piece of her identity. In Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, characters described as a phantom or shade indicate missing or different identities. In The Circle by Dave Eggers, the employees live through what the circle tells and have no original ideas which stems from their missing identity. them Ghosts are the soul of a once living person, but they are incomplete in that they are missing emotions or major characteristics of a human. Because of these missing pieces, ghosts represent missing identity. In Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey, the poet has a difficult time letting both her white father and black mothers culture into her life and her black culture is described as ghostlike because the black culture is the missing part of her true identity. The Civil War divided the United States which most people try to forget. Although Americans would like to pretend that slavery and inequality never happened in the United States, the unjust actions continue as a part of history and is still represented with " the fields of cotton, hallowed ground– as slave legend goes–each boll holding the ghosts of generations" according ... • 13. How Does Virgil Use Dante's Inferno As An Allegory Of several primary sources available from the Renaissance Era, Dante's Inferno gives us clear insight into aspects of Florentine society during the Renaissance. Dante uses his comedy as an allegory to serve as a commentary/critique on the Florentine Renaissance. Throughout the poem, Dante refers to authors, characters and other mythological beings from Classical mythology. The poet Homer, the mathematician Euclid and several other "virtuous pagans" including other figures in Classical literature are found in Limbo, the 1st Circle of Hell. Virgil, the poet who wrote "The Aeneid" serves as Dante's guide and protector through Hell and subsequently into Purgatory. This is due to the resurgence of Classical culture in the western world and the development of Humanism. Since the Roman Catholic Church's conception, is whether or not the church should have power over the secular world. Dante was a proponent of Imperial politics and the separation of church from state affairs. This is evident when he tries to predict the revival of the Holy Roman Empire and idolizes Julius Caesar and other monumental secular leaders. The church and the papacy had grown in power and importance throughout the Middle Ages, and this trend continued into the Renaissance. In Florence, there were political parties that supported papal power over state matters and groups that opposed such power. Dante was a member of the Guelph, the party that opposed papal influence over state affairs and acted to prevent the Pope from controlling government. The Ghibellines were opposite of the Guelph, they wanted papal power over secular matters. • 15. The Corruption Of Dante's Inferno By Dante Alighieri Many authors have attempted to write a text that will stand the test of time yet few have been successful. Dante Alighieri was the exception. In the early 1300s, Dante wrote The Divine Comedy. It was separated into three parts: The Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise. Although all of them were well written, all agree that The Inferno was the most intriguing. Once read, it is quickly understood that Dante's Inferno was actually a book of revenge against those that were not politically aligned with Dante's beliefs. In 1265, Dante Alighieri was born in Florence, Italy. His political views were shaped early in life due to the intensity of the political battles in Florence. At that time, Italy was split politically between the Guelphs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In life, Abati belonged to the Ghibelline party but remained in Florence after they were run out of the city under the guise of a Guelph. He pretended to fight on the Guelph side in a battle set at Montaperti, near Siena, as part of the cavalry. In a heated moment of battle, he cut off the hand of the flag bearer for the Guelphs. This sent the remaining forces into a panic and because of his vengeance the Ghibellines won a remarkable victory. When Dante enters the ninth circle, Abati refuses to tell his name but encourages Dante's anger by mentioning the battle site. Dante pulled larges pieces of hair from Abati's head but he would not give up his name. A fellow sufferer gives Abati's name and upon learning Abati's identity, Dante kicks him in the face because he sees him as a political traitor. Throughout the conversation, Abati cannot keep his mouth shut. As in other circles, Dante may have made this name fit the character as "Bocca" is the word for mouth in ... The Theme Of Family In The Black Balloon For my creative task, I chose to represent the theme of family in The Black Balloon, directed by Elissa Down, with a visual interpretation of how the family works with their hardships to support each other and Charlie. I made a visual expression because it allowed me to show the multiple points of view that there always is in a family environmentI used the colour black in my visual piece to represent difficulty getting through to Charlie through his autism. She exhibits these in all of her interactions with tough situations regarding Charlie, she is consistently caring for her family and leading them from a positive outlook. Simon is represented by the brown third with a black maze leading to the centre. The black maze symbolises the blocks that Simon encounters when he is trying to look after his family. He uses humour to get past a lot of these issues, but he still struggles through twists and turns to reach through to Charlie in the middle. This is shown when Maggie goes to hospital, leaving Simon in charge and he is struggling to give Charlie his medicine and get him organised for school. Simon's segment is brown because it represents the reliability and security of the Earth. He shows his protection for his family when he yells at his neighbours after they harrassed Charlie and when he instructs Maggie that "We're going to the hospital" in order to take care of his family. Charlie is represented by the orange balloon in the middle of the circle. Charlie is in the middle because he is what is drawing the others together as a stronger family. Charlie's circle doesn't have any black areas because his actions make perfect sense to him. I chose a balloon to symbolise Charie's childlike innocence and to show the irony of comparing the freedom of a balloon with Charlie's confinement in his house due to his autism. • 19. Prejudice Is The Wall In To Kill A Mockingbird Walls are built for the purpose of division. Similarly, Harper Lee, in the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, emphasizes that prejudice is the wall that divides human race. The story takes place in Maycomb, Alabama, during the times of The Great Depression. The town of Maycomb had prejudice deep down in its roots, and racism was considered a disease that people caught. The main character, Jean Louise Finch also known as Scout, witnesses first–hand the spread of prejudice before and after Tom Robinson, an innocent black man, was accused of raping a white woman, and sentenced to death by a racist white jury. She learns that the majority of the white population are prejudiced, simply because it was a usual stereotype. Through the use of characterization of the racist townsfolk and the narrow–minded ladies from the missionary circle, Lee proves that prejudice is a learned behavior, and is passed on by others. Prejudice influences children the most, because it is going to be the environment that they will grow up in. When Atticus, Scout's heroic father, takes over Tom Robinson's ... Nelson Mandela once said, " No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to a human heart than its opposite" (Mandela). Glee is a musical comedy drama. The cast are majority Caucasians and addressed topics commonly faced by children such as "cyber bullying, schools shootings, suicides" are just to name a few many issues. Once Glee's season ended, Fox has always been a trendy television station. Fox needed an innovative television show to satisfy their audience. The entrance of Fox's television shows "Empire". "Empire is a powerful drama about a family dynasty set within the glamorous and sometimes dangerous world of hip–hop music" 1(Fox.com/Empire). Graphic Incognito Analysis According to article "Graphic Incognito", writer Mark Owens says that modernism exported to America through Bauhaus, which was a European movement that came around World War 2. The movement in America took shape in the 1980s with the influence of a new cultural era that was personified in different mediums, especially in music. He argues that certain modernist design tactics were adopted by suburban kids raised during the Reagan era in the early 1980s that were in the post– punk, hardcore, underground music scene. First of all, he begins his essay with a quote from Paul Rand about how "timeless principles" were the only hope to achieve a style of quality in one's work. Why Do Termites Walk In Circle Furthermore, our experiment portrayed that termites are blind and they walk in circles because they can smell the pheromones in the BIC pen causing it to walk in that direction. For example, when we drew a circle with a black color pencil, the termites simply roamed around and walked across the paper. This shows how the termites completely ignored the circle because the pheromones in a color pencil aren't very strong causing them to not recognize the circle. On the other hand, when we drew a circle with black ink, the termites started to walk along the path proving that they can smell the ink causing them to follow the trail. The termites in this experiment are housed inside a petri dish that can be described as pale insects three to twenty millimeters long in body length, and can also be commonly known as "white ants". Termites live in organized colonies and are defined by divisions of labor. Termites are also considered to be social insects inside their colonies where they work together to bring food and water back to their colonies for survival. Termites Behavior Lab Report After completing the lab The Effect Colors of Pen have on Termites Behavior it could be identified that termites like black pens the most and prefer to follow an ink line. In both trials the termites seemed to avoid the squares for the most part, but when they got near one they would walk around the outside of the square. Out of all the colors it was evident black was the preffered color because they spend 11 seconds inside that square 2 seconds in the blue, and 3 seconds in the red. While this seems like a short period of time considering each trial was 2 minutes long the termites spend a good majority of that time near the black square which we did not put into our data table. If three squares are drawn in different colors, then the termites will mostly stay in the red square, because it likely has the strongest scent. This was the hypothesis made in the beginning of the experiment and it was rejected based off the lab results. The interior of the church was dimly lit, only the light from the eight candles at the center of the altar parted the darkness that blanketed the rest of the church's interior. There are times people can tip toe around death and put themselves in near death situations, but one day or another it will come to everybody. Bill Parish experiences this first hand when he meets Joe Black. After his first conversation with Joe, Bill knew that his life would be ending soon and there was no way around it. The different genres that I noticed were in the book were, autobiography, testimonial, tribal history, and elegy. Black Elk Speaks is divided into 25 chapters, which portray the early life of Black Elk. The author tells us that Black Elk was a healer and a great holy man. He was said to have this mystical vision since he was young. As a tribal history, it shows the change of the Sioux nation from pre–reservation to reservation culture, including their partaking in the ghost dance, the Battle of Little Big Horn, and Wounded Knee. Black Elk Speaks propositions testament to the price in human grief that the Sioux had to pay for the United States expanding westward. It grieves his cultural misplacement and the age of being innocent and being free. Black lk Speaks is framed with a preace and Author's postscript. This reminds the readers of an editing presence. • 55. Punishment In Dante's Inferno What is Hell? During the fourteenth century, Dante Alighieri was exiled from his home in Florence, Italy and wrote The Devine Comedy: The Inferno while in exile. In this text, Dante gives detailed descriptions of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. He wrote this poem in order to get revenge on the political figures who had banished him. Walter Scott explained this perfectly in his book, The Heart of Midlothian, "Revenge, the sweetest morsel to the mouth that ever was cooked in hell" (Scott). In many ways, The Inferno was designed as a type of memoir to depict the sins that surrounded him in Florence. In Dante's Inferno creates an imaginative connection between a soul's sinner on Earth and the punishment the sinner receives in Hell. The first example of Dante's "the punishment fits the crime" concept, in Inferno had to deal with the wrathful and the sullen. In The Inferno, the fifth circle of hell is reserved for the wrathful and the sullen. The wrathful are on the bank of the river Styx and are constantly fighting in the mud. The Poem ' Merry Go Round ' By Langston Hughes Around and Around In the poem, Merry–Go–Round by Langston Hughes, the first line exhbits a child asking the question, "Where is the Jim Crow section?" ( Hughes, 1). This line refers to the Jim Crow of the South that was established during the late 1800s to the 1960s. After the Civil War, freed slaves were given opportunities to become real class citizens. Many White Southerners did not like the fact that freed slaves were given the same rights as them and were using the same facilities, too. The name Jim Crow was created by a minstrel show performer from New York named Thomas D. Rice. Rice would wear "tattered clothing, burnt cork, and blackface mask" to disguise himself as poor Black person (Huser & Sanders). He was supposedly imitating a black slave dancing, who he had met one day. His show, which imitated and perpetrated stereotypes of black people, became very popular with White people of the North and South. White people started believing these stereotypes about Black people and used it to justify how superior they were (Huser& Sander). Jim Crow law was a form of a racial caste system that was common throughout the Southern part of the United States (Pilgrim, p1). Jim Crow laws helped settle the "separate, but equal" belief on public facilities such as restrooms, restaurants, and schools for both Black and White citizens. Even though the laws said, "separate but equal," a lot of time the public facilities for black citizens were subpar. The narrator of this poem is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite different research questions, participants, methods, these two research projects are built on the same theoretical assumption that human behaviors and the consequences of their behaviors are the outcomes of human interactions with their own context. According to Bronfenbrenner's theory, each person is located in the core circle entitled microsystems which often includes that person's family, school, peers, etc. Outside the microsystem is the mesosystems where the interactions of related people in the microsystem conduct with each other. When a neighboring tribe of Black Elk's was on the move without any food or clothing, they gave them as much food and clothing as possible even though they were short themselves. Nature also played a large role in the Indian's lives. "Birds make their nests in circles, for their religion is the same as ours" (APT 315). The traditional Sioux way of life created interdependence between man and nature. Respect for the cycle of the seasons and animal life was necessary in order to secure food, clothing, and shelter. However if it's a large group tour or a foreign language tour, the viewer must schedule a tour two weeks in advanced. The museum is only free on Sundays, but it is half price on Wednesdays. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I knew that this art must have a meaning to it that I just couldn't see yet until I did some research. The top portion of the canvas contains three identical circles. However, just by staring at the painting, it made me feel as if the artist was trying to portray anger in the first circle. The bright colored red on this peach colored canvas is the brightest color. Gottliieb also has a pink, and tan colored circle next to the red circle. It's like his anger slowly dimmed out and he found peace within himself. Under the circles there is thick black paint brushed on the canvas. At first, I thought it was some foreign language, but it doesn't seem very legible. He uses repetition by using three circles, and the black paint brings out the whole ... A quote and detailed context will be used to explain to the full extent what was hypocritical with their statement. Mrs. Dubose is prejudiced against negros, yet she has a black servant who helps her maintain her life. "But Mrs. Dubose held us: 'Not only a Finch waiting on tables but one in the courthouse lawing for niggers!'" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 71. Examples Of Hypocrisy In To Kill A Mockingbird Hypocrisy in To Kill a Mockingbird Hypocrisy is the practice of claiming you have moral standards to which your behavior does comply to. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee there are many examples of hypocrisy by different characters. In To Kill a Mockingbird the main character Scout(Who is 6 years old at the beginning of the book) and her brother Jem are exposed to her town's racism and hypocrisy when her father, Atticus, is defending a black man against a white women in the 1930's fictional town of Maycomb. The hypocrisy of the town is shown by three different characters that Scout meets and knows. The first example of hypocrisy in the town of Maycomb is Scout's 3rd grade teacher Ms. Gates. Ms. Gates is first shown on page 244 teaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs. Merriweather starts off the missionary circle by talking about J. Grimes Everett and what is doing to "help" the Mruna tribe which is a black tribe who don't live by "family values" meaning the tribe is all one big family. Mrs. Merriweather after explaining what Everett is going then says,"... there's nothing more distracting than a sulky darky."(Lee Pg. 264) This quote shows how she can feel sorry for the blacks only to then do the opposite and insult them. Another example is from another essay from 123Help me called To Kill a Mockingbird(No Author). In the essay the author explains Mrs. Merriweather and her Missionary circle by saying,"This clearly conveys the hypocrisy of these women, as they go from sympathizing for the blacks, to completely disregarding and insulting them." and also says,"This is deceiving because the whites' racism in Maycomb is what is causing African Americans to suffer in their own town. This doesn't happen to concern Ms. Merriweather, as she turns a blind eye to the maltreated in her own backyard." The author explains that Mrs. Merriweather feels sorry for Black outside her town, but then seems to not care about the blacks in her own community which shows how big of a hypocrite Mrs. Merriweather ... • 75. Gestalt Psychology : How People Perceive Objects 1. Gestalt psychology attempts to explain how people perceive objects, particularly the way that elements of an image are grouped together to create larger objects. The principle of figure–ground notes that the organization of an image depends on what we see or identify as the figure or object and what we see as ground or the background. One example of figure and ground could be words on a page. Rather than perceiving the white of a page in a book as a large figure with small breaks in it to represent the background, we see the words as the figure and the page as the ground. Another more notable example is that of the faces–vase drawing in which there are black and white shapes. When focusing on the white shapes, one may perceive the image as two faces facing each other in front of a black background. When focusing on the black, one may see it as a vase with a white background. The image is physically the same, but the perception of what is the figure and what is the ground differs. The next principle is proximity in which objects are perceived as being grouped together when they are placed near each other or close together. For example, if there are six dots spread across a page evenly spaced, they will not be perceived as a group. If, however, three of those dots are made to be closer together on the left side of the page and the other three dots are closer together on the right, the viewer will interpret two groups based on the nearness of the set of dots. • 77. Similarities Between Panpsychism And Dan Christensen's... Looking around the world there are repeated patterns everywhere, and many people tend not to notice. Nature, both here on earth and in space, seems to reuse these patterns over and over again. Is there a driving force behind everything, or is it just all one colossal coincidence? Science has provided a theory that may favor the prior. There seems to a link between Panpsychism, and both the earthly and heavenly bodies of the universe. An artist by the name of Dan Christensen often uses the same patterns in his paintings. Usually a giant dot in the center, and swirling loops. One example of this is his piece, Revolver. The patterns he uses to paint we see examples of in, and outside of the world. The first point of interest worth noting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
