What is bitumen emulsion
Emulsion (latin emulgeo - “to milk”) – is a coarse dispersed system,
consisting of immiscible fluids.
There are two types of emulsion: droplets of nonpolar fluid in polar
medium (oil-in-water), and vice versa (water-in-oil).

Advantages of Bitumen Emulsions
- The use of bitumen emulsions has the following advantages:
- -full adhesion with the underlay due to positive charge of cationic emulsion and
negative charge of the underlay surface
- -emulsion is similar to water in terms of viscosity, it flows freely across the surface,
filling all pores and irregularities
- -bitumen emulsion can be applied to wet surface
- -emulsion production process allows variations of its performance as required for
each specific job
- -lower energy consumption due to the fact that emulsion does not require high
temperature to be maintained
- -application at 30 to 70 degrees Centigrade makes the process safe.

2 m³/hour Bitumen Emulsion Production Unit
The unit operates by consecutive
mixing of components in
hydrodynamic mixers at certain
pressure and temperature. The
unique design of the hydrodynamic
mixer allows to blend component
streams instantly, making the unit
small and economical.
The final stage of making uniform water-bitumen emulsion occurs
in a colloid mill, ensuring the highest quality of the product. The
system features sensors and instruments for both manual and
semi-automatic operation.

8 m³/hour Bitumen Emulsion Production Unit
The 8 m³/hour UVB-1 unit can be built on an open frame,
as well as in a rolling door or anti-vandal container. The
reliability of the unit is ensured by the use of advanced
components from the leading European manufacturers:
Motovario gearbox, KTR couplings, Wilo pumps, Influx flow
meters, Zipson valves.
Wika pressure sensors make operation of the unit safe.

What is Modified Bitumen?
Modified bitumen is improved by adding certain substances (polymer, rubber crumbs,
sulfur, adhesion additives etc). Polymer-bitumen binder is polymer-modified bitumen.
Bitumen with natural resin is called bitumen-resin binder, and bitumen with rubber crumbs is
referred to as bitumen-rubber binder.
The main reason for adding polymer to the bitumen is to reduce the temperature sensitivity
of the binder, i.e. to increase its rigidity in summer and reduction thereof in winter, as well as
improving the binder’s elasticity, that is, the ability for recoverable deformation across the
operating temperature range.
Inspection of road pavement in various climatic zones indicates that using polymer-modified
binder improves the cracking resistance of roads, bridges, airport pavements by 1.5 – 3
times.

-production of high and medium density polymer asphalt-concrete
mix of various types and structure, cast mix, porous storable

  • 11. What is Modified Bitumen? Modified bitumen is improved by adding certain substances (polymer, rubber crumbs, sulfur, adhesion additives etc). Polymer-bitumen binder is polymer-modified bitumen. Bitumen with natural resin is called bitumen-resin binder, and bitumen with rubber crumbs is referred to as bitumen-rubber binder. The main reason for adding polymer to the bitumen is to reduce the temperature sensitivity of the binder, i.e. to increase its rigidity in summer and reduction thereof in winter, as well as improving the binder’s elasticity, that is, the ability for recoverable deformation across the operating temperature range.
