Editor's Notes
When a new record is input into SugarCRM, the module is scanned for similar entries. If an entry is found that may be a duplicate, SugarCRM gives you the option of either continuing to create the new record or returning to the module without creating the new entry.
In the lead conversion process in SugarCRM, after you attempt to save your information, SugarCRM scans for duplicate entries. If an existing record is found that is similar to the lead you are attempting to convert, you will be given the choice to either continue saving the record -- which will be added to your contacts – or you can select the existing record, which ends the lead conversion process.
You can find duplicates in SugarCRM by using the module search function. Input a search term like a first name, last name, or email; if there are similar records to your search term, you will be given the option to merge the records.
By selecting a contact or lead and entering the record view page, you can select “Find Duplicates” from the Action drop down menu. If there are similar entries to your selected record, you will be given the option to merge the two entries.

Administrator defined matching
Duplicate Detector for SugarCRM works on any existing or custom field of type varchar, name or phone. It prompts the user if the value has already been used while they are creating records in the edit view or quick create mode. It can be configured to prevent records from being saved or only pop-up notification prompting duplication.
When editing an element, if the current value of a patterned field is incorrect, the field will display in red and the form cannot be submitted until the value is properly defined
