This document provides information about the Analysis of Structures I course offered by the Aerospace Engineering Department at Cairo University. The course aims to teach students how to analyze load bearing structures and stresses on structural elements. It is a 3-credit hour course taught over 15 weeks that includes lectures, tutorials, assignments, quizzes, a midterm exam, course project, and final exam. Students will learn concepts like structural equilibrium, truss analysis, stress/strain, and analyzing stresses on axial members, shafts, and beams. The intended learning outcomes are for students to gain understanding and skills in structural analysis, design, and using analysis tools.

Classroom Regulations
1. The use of mobile telephones in the classroom is not permitted. They should be switched
to silent at all times and must not be answered during class.
2. Students must come to class with the necessary study materials/equipment e.g. paper,
pens, calculators, reference notes.
3. Standards of behaviour in the classroom should be such that all students can study
without disruption.
Failure to adhere to the classroom regulations may render the student subject to disciplinary
action in accordance with the College rules and regulations.
Course Aims:
The main objective of this course is to provide future aeronautical engineers with the means of
analyzing and designing various load bearing structures. Students will learn to analyze a system
of forces and obtain the reactions at the supports of structures; then, the students will be
introduced to the analysis of forces in plain trusses. The students later, will be introduced to the
nature of stress and strain, and the properties of cross sections, finally, the students will be
introduced to the forces and stresses in members subject to axial, torsion, and bending loading.
