• Knowledge will not be a mere tool in development,
knowledge itself will be developed.
• It is not information, but insight what
matters.(inquiry attitude)
• Review 1999 says, India ranks first as the source of
knowledge workers.
• The basics need to be set right.

THE NEW
PANCHASHEEL
I feel confident that the 21st century
will belong to India
•
The New Panchasheel.
• I feel confident that the 21st century will belong
to India, provided we get back to some basics
and set them right, and the time to do this is
Now. No matter how hard one thinks, it is clear
that only five fundamentals need to be set right.
The five point agenda for the new millennium is
almost like a new Panchasheel for the new
millennium.
CHILD CENTERED EDUCATION
• Yuvashakti is the real Shakti of the nation.
• Are our education systems geared to meet this
challenge today? (science education).
• How can we make education child centered? (
learning by doing, by including local content,
making self- learning program , effective
teacher).
• Will teaching and learning in cyberspace replace
a classroom?.
WOMEN CENTERED SOCIETY
• Mother is creativity and innovation personified in solving human
problems in the family.
• She represents excellence, morality, equality not in material
terms but as a living culture symbol practicing these values.
• Harsh statistics says-
• Only 65.46% of the Indian women are literate and 60% of
primary school dropouts are girls.
• Human Development Report 1994 had said,” No country treats
its women as well as its men”.
• The emergence of information technology will play a great role
with education reaching the home now.
• Q) How can the condition of women be improved today?
WOMAN CENTERED SOCIETY
• Is one where the women will be respected, she will be
allowed the full expression of her potential.
• Medieval Indian Women-
• Sati, child marriage.
• Main Problems of India-
• Malnutrition, Poor Health, Lack of education,
Mistreatment, Overworked, Lack of Power, Dowry.
• Great Reformers- Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar
Chandra Vidyasagar, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Mahatma
Gandhi.
• Current Scenario- Art and entertainment, Literature,
Corporate Divas, Social saints.
Human Centered Development
• What are human resources?
• What type of human resources are for looking for?
( motivated, matured, and disciplined).
Who is responsible for the economic development of the country?
Primary, secondary and tertiary sectors.
• We don't want bystander.
• There has to balance of ecology, environment, economics, equity
and ethics.
Dignity-respect
(self- employed)
Important keys in human centered
society
• Top- down planning.
• Mass production and production by masses.
• How we as teachers contribute in human
centered development?
Human Centered Development

Knowledge Centered Society
• A knowledge worker is simply one who knows why he is doing
what he is doing. (farmer, a rural workman, a media man, an
artisan and so on).
• Education for all, food for all, and health for all now we should
have knowledge for all.
• What do you understand by knowledge industry?
• Not only that knowledge is doubling up in 10years but it is
growing in complexity too.
Universalisation of primary education is helping in
transmitting of knowledge. Knowledge is reaching to rich as
well as poor.
• Q) How can we make knowledge centered society?
Farmers, housewife, artisan etc.
• Knowledge------- information-----insight---
• How do you develop the insight of a concept?
Insight is developed through the
process of inquiry?
• How can we have inquiry attitude among
students?
What is Innovation?
• Innovation means the creation of
something in the mind.
• Innovation also means exploiting new
technology & employing out-of-the
box thinking to generate new value &
to bring about significant changes in
society.
• Innovation is not just the invention
of new idea that is important ,but it is
actually “bringing it to market “,
putting into practice & exploiting it in
a manner that leads to new products ,
services or system that add value or
improve quality.

• Encourage risk taking
• Tolerate Ambiguity
