The decision to establish plenary Port of Alexandria(APA)
The Port of Alexandria was established in 1900 B.C, and passed through a lot of
improvements until in 1966 The late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, President of the
United Arab Republic issued his resolution no. 3293 which included the
responsibilities and jurisdictions of the General Authority of the Port of Alexandria. •
Alexandria Port Authority was established according to law no. 6 for the year 1967.
• Dekheila Port was established according to the decree no. 494 for the year 1986
which included that APA will manage and operate El-Dekheila port as well as
Alexandria port.
Board of Directors of APA
The formation of the Board of Directors of APA was according to the resolution no.
2147 for the year 2000 of H.E the Head of Cabinet and the Resolutions No. 115, 121
and 130 for the year 2000 of H. E the Minister of transport.

Location:
 Alexandria is located at the west end of the River
Nile between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake
Mariot. It is considered the second most important
city and the main port in Egypt, it handles over three
quarters of Egypt’s foreign trade.
 The Port of Alexandria consists of two harbors (East
and West) separated by a T-shaped peninsula. The
East harbor is shallow and is not used in navigation.
The West harbor is used for commercial shipping.
The harbor is formed by two converging
breakwaters.

Port Zones
 First Zone
Is the area extending between berth 5 and berth 15, used for
general cargo handling.
 Second Zone
Is situated between berths 16 and 28, and deals with 4 types
of activities: unified cargoes including roro, passengers'
terminal, stuffed bulk cargoes, and barge discharge.
 Third Zone
Is located between berths 35 and 47, and is used for handling
general cargo and barge discharge.
Port Zones
 Fourth Zone
Is located between berths 50 and 68, and is used for handling
containers, cement, coal, barge discharge, fertilizers, and general
cargo.
 Fifth Zone
Is situated between zone 71(a) and 85, and is used for handling:
molasses, timber, some types of general cargoes, barge discharge,
grains and flour.
 Sixth Zone
(Oil Dock) is situated at the western boundaries of the port,
encompasses oil berths 87 / 1,2,3,4,5, and is used for handling
edible oil, oil products and for providing bunkers. It also includes
berth 86 situated at the port’s limits, used for handling livestock.
The port do not include oil storage facilities, but oil berths are
connected to a refinery through a 2 km long pipeline

Ship Repair :
Companies specialized in vessel repair representing
Alexandria Shipyard are operating inside the port.
Two dry docks and 4 slipways fitted with modern
equipment are available, as well as installations for
vessel construction.
Repair facilities are provided by the Egyptian
Company for Shipbuilding and Repair.

Approach Area
The port is protected by sea stuns, and two converging breakwaters. The
entrance breadth is 400m. Approximately. The port is divided into two
harbor separated by coal berths and the inner breakwater. The first
harbor is called the inner dock and the second harbour is called the outer
harbor with a water area of 600 hectares.
The first harbour is used for handling general cargo while the second
harbor is used for oil and bulk cargo traffic. Pilotage is compulsory for
vessels arriving and departing the port. The approach area is 3 Nautical
Miles distanced from Negma lighthouse.
Pilotage is compulsory for all types of vessels. Pilots board in the designated
waiting area to pilot the ship inside to the outer harbor anchorage area,
through fairways, inside the inner anchorage area and throughout
maneuverings.
Pilotage fees according to law 24 for year 1983 and its amendments.

SPECIALIZED TERMINALS:
:Maritime passenger terminal
Considered one of the most important entity to serve
the arrival and departure passenger through which
located the authorities and Organization that have a
business linked to passenger and tourism.It has been
initiated with the total area of 15 thousand m2 with
the Height of two floors in addition to free
market,Commercial And Entertainment
comprehensive center which contained 8000m2 of
Commercial Zones,restaurant, cafeteria and 120
hostages Positions.
Grains terminal
It contains three silos at berths 82, 84 and 85 with a
capacity of 8000 tons, 50,000 tons and 100,000
tons respectively. This zone is dedicated to receipt
and temporary storage of grains. There is an area for
parking trucks that are loaded with grains packed in
sacks. These silos are considered Egypt’s strategic
grain reserve.
Oil terminal
It lies at the west end of the Port. Berths
87/1,2,3,4,5 It is dedicated to imports of food oils
and petroleum products, as well as ship supply
services. It is also used in oil, asphalt, fuel oil and
NAFTA exportation.
Coal terminal
It has been administrated by El-Nasr Company for coke &
chemical Basics whereas handling equipment operated to
serve port inland Assigned for Berths No. 61,62,63,64 with
the length of 365 m and the depth of 10m that allows one
vessel for berthing with 3000 ton. Or two or three vessel
with smaller type but the working depth is 33 m when we use
Bartom (method to increase the depth of the berth) thus we
can receive vessel up to 40000 ton .the coal handling
operation processed through berth cranes and the use of lefts
which two of them moved along rails with spacing of 60 m
and it has two charging arms with the length of 21.5 m from
the berth edge whereas trains & scow can be charged Directly
from the vessel.
Cattle terminal
It lies at the west end of the Port. Berth 86. It is
dedicated to cattle imports
Station of lunar signals
Location:It is located in the front of port entrance
Description:Circle tower its caliber 5 m with the height
of 42 m.
It was opened to work in 1968 and then abolished the
old station of lunar signals, which was located in front
of berth 83, due to the incompletion of vision during
Ships passing in the harbors and because of soils
building height.
Container terminal
It is managed by the Alexandria Container Handling Company
(ACHC) and maritime transport companies. Berths No. 49, 51,
53 and 54. The total area of the Container Terminal is 163,000
m2, total capacity 230,000 containers. It is possible to
increase the capacity to reach up to 300,000 when a 5-TEU
stacking system is adopted. The Terminal is equipped with
huge handling and stevedoring equipment.
Chinese hutchison (HPH) container terminal
Total investments amount to 750 million Egyptian Pounds, in
addition to other investments of 450 million USD covering
420,000 containers (210,000 containers in each port) along
berths 71/81 at Alexandria Port; the others are at berth 98 at
Dekheila Port

The decision to establish plenary Port of Alexandria(APA The decision to establish plenary Port of Alexandria(APA) The Port of Alexandria was established in 1900 B.C, and passed through a lot of improvements until in 1966 The late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, President of the United Arab Republic issued his resolution no. 3293 which included the responsibilities and jurisdictions of the General Authority of the Port of Alexandria. • Alexandria Port Authority was established according to law no. 6 for the year 1967. • Dekheila Port was established according to the decree no. 494 for the year 1986 which included that APA will manage and operate El-Dekheila port as well as Alexandria port. Board of Directors of APA The formation of the Board of Directors of APA was according to the resolution no. 2147 for the year 2000 of H.E the Head of Cabinet and the Resolutions No. 115, 121 and 130 for the year 2000 of H. E the Minister of transport.

  • 6.  Alexandria is located at the west end of the River Nile between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Mariot. It is considered the second most important city and the main port in Egypt, it handles over three quarters of Egypt’s foreign trade.  The Port of Alexandria consists of two harbors (East and West) separated by a T-shaped peninsula. The East harbor is shallow and is not used in navigation. The West harbor is used for commercial shipping. The harbor is formed by two converging breakwaters. Location:

Port Zones  First Zone Is the area extending between berth 5 and berth 15, used for general cargo handling.  Second Zone Is situated between berths 16 and 28, and deals with 4 types of activities: unified cargoes including roro, passengers' terminal, stuffed bulk cargoes, and barge discharge.  Third Zone Is located between berths 35 and 47, and is used for handling general cargo and barge discharge.

Port Zones  Fourth Zone Is located between berths 50 and 68, and is used for handling containers, cement, coal, barge discharge, fertilizers, and general cargo.  Fifth Zone Is situated between zone 71(a) and 85, and is used for handling: molasses, timber, some types of general cargoes, barge discharge, grains and flour.  Sixth Zone (Oil Dock) is situated at the western boundaries of the port, encompasses oil berths 87 / 1,2,3,4,5, and is used for handling edible oil, oil products and for providing bunkers. It also includes berth 86 situated at the port’s limits, used for handling livestock. The port do not include oil storage facilities, but oil berths are connected to a refinery through a 2 km long pipeline
  • 10. Services Ship Repair : Companies specialized in vessel repair representing Alexandria Shipyard are operating inside the port. Two dry docks and 4 slipways fitted with modern equipment are available, as well as installations for vessel construction. Repair facilities are provided by the Egyptian Company for Shipbuilding and Repair.

  • 15. Approach Area The port is protected by sea stuns, and two converging breakwaters. The entrance breadth is 400m. Approximately. The port is divided into two harbor separated by coal berths and the inner breakwater. The first harbor is called the inner dock and the second harbour is called the outer harbor with a water area of 600 hectares. The first harbour is used for handling general cargo while the second harbor is used for oil and bulk cargo traffic. Pilotage is compulsory for vessels arriving and departing the port. The approach area is 3 Nautical Miles distanced from Negma lighthouse. Pilotage is compulsory for all types of vessels. Pilots board in the designated waiting area to pilot the ship inside to the outer harbor anchorage area, through fairways, inside the inner anchorage area and throughout maneuverings. Pilotage fees according to law 24 for year 1983 and its amendments.

SPECIALIZED TERMINALS: :Maritime passenger terminal Considered one of the most important entity to serve the arrival and departure passenger through which located the authorities and Organization that have a business linked to passenger and tourism.It has been initiated with the total area of 15 thousand m2 with the Height of two floors in addition to free market,Commercial And Entertainment comprehensive center which contained 8000m2 of Commercial Zones,restaurant, cafeteria and 120 hostages Positions.
  • 19. Grains terminal It contains three silos at berths 82, 84 and 85 with a capacity of 8000 tons, 50,000 tons and 100,000 tons respectively. This zone is dedicated to receipt and temporary storage of grains. There is an area for parking trucks that are loaded with grains packed in sacks. These silos are considered Egypt’s strategic grain reserve.
  • 20. Oil terminal It lies at the west end of the Port. Berths 87/1,2,3,4,5 It is dedicated to imports of food oils and petroleum products, as well as ship supply services. It is also used in oil, asphalt, fuel oil and NAFTA exportation.
  • 21. Coal terminal It has been administrated by El-Nasr Company for coke & chemical Basics whereas handling equipment operated to serve port inland Assigned for Berths No. 61,62,63,64 with the length of 365 m and the depth of 10m that allows one vessel for berthing with 3000 ton. Or two or three vessel with smaller type but the working depth is 33 m when we use Bartom (method to increase the depth of the berth) thus we can receive vessel up to 40000 ton .the coal handling operation processed through berth cranes and the use of lefts which two of them moved along rails with spacing of 60 m and it has two charging arms with the length of 21.5 m from the berth edge whereas trains & scow can be charged Directly from the vessel.
  • 22. Cattle terminal It lies at the west end of the Port. Berth 86. It is dedicated to cattle imports Station of lunar signals Location:It is located in the front of port entrance Description:Circle tower its caliber 5 m with the height of 42 m. It was opened to work in 1968 and then abolished the old station of lunar signals, which was located in front of berth 83, due to the incompletion of vision during Ships passing in the harbors and because of soils building height.
  • 23. Container terminal It is managed by the Alexandria Container Handling Company (ACHC) and maritime transport companies. Berths No. 49, 51, 53 and 54. The total area of the Container Terminal is 163,000 m2, total capacity 230,000 containers. It is possible to increase the capacity to reach up to 300,000 when a 5-TEU stacking system is adopted. The Terminal is equipped with huge handling and stevedoring equipment. Chinese hutchison (HPH) container terminal Total investments amount to 750 million Egyptian Pounds, in addition to other investments of 450 million USD covering 420,000 containers (210,000 containers in each port) along berths 71/81 at Alexandria Port; the others are at berth 98 at Dekheila Port
