2. Easter is one of the most
beloved, most beautiful and
most joyful religious holidays.
Indeed, the joy fills your mind
when you hear the church
bells sing to the world: "Christ
is risen!" This holiday is one of
the most important in our
country as symbolizing the
rebirth of all living things and
has many unusual and
distinctive traditions.
3. One of such traditions
is the food of course,
and now I would like
to tell about some of
the traditions of
Easter dishes which
have been prepared
for many centuries
4. Of course, the most
important and the most
delicious meal of this day is
Paska (Easter bread). Paska
is baked in every family and
it is not only a symbol of the
Resurrection but also very
delicious thing. It is sure to
be on the festive table. One
more important ingredient is
cheese which can be served
with butter, sugar, raisins
and fruits.
5. But Paska baked in the
western part of Ukraine
(mainly in Transkarpathia is
not sweet. It can be eaten
with the main meals of the
table like bread.
Many people still prefer to
bake it at home and think it
is the best way to unite the
family.
6. Аfter a long Lent the
hostesеs prepars a lot and
delicious meat dishes.
Among these there has
always been the traditional
jelly. Residents of many
villages unanimously testify:
"It's not Easter without the
jelly.“ It can be prepared
differently and have many
addings.
7. Ukrainians also like
various kinds of soup
for Easter. In different
regions they have
different preferences.
Mostly this is borshch (
in central and eastern
parts) or levesh
(bouillon) (in
Transcarpathia.
8. Among the traditional
dishes there is also
big long sausage
with fried minced
meat and eggs, black
and red pepper. In
many families it is
prepared following
old family recipes.
10. Ukrainians like sweet
dishes very much.
At the festive table there
should always be at
least 5-6 kinds of cakes,
cookies or pies.
In many families they are
prepared by the hostess
and are served with tea
or coffee.
11. To the festive table
It is also necessary to
prepare various sweet
dishes such as walnut
halva (paste of nuts).
Nuts are slightly fried,
covered with boiling
honey, stirred, poured
into forms or other
containers and cooled.
