What is Global Warming ?
Rise in the average temperature of Earth's
atmosphere and oceans
-The average temperature of Earth according to NASA
figures is 15°C. (59°Fahrenheit)

-The hottest temperature ever recorded on our planet
was 70.7°C (159.26°Fahrenheit) in the Lut Desert of
Iran in 2005.

-The average global temperature on Earth has
increased by about 0.8°Celsius (1.4°Fahrenheit) since
1880

-Between 1870 and 2004, global average sea levels
rose 17 cm (6.7 in)
Causes of Global Warming
• Greenhouse effect
• Pollution
• Deforestation
The Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse Effect
• Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide,
water vapor, methane, ozone and nitrous
oxide hold heat in the atmosphere creating
  a greenhouse effect.
Green House Gas

• Water vapor (H2O)
• Carbon dioxide (CO2)
• Methane (CH4)
• Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s)
Pollution
• Automobile
• Industrial activities
Automobile

• Burning Fuels ---> CO+Co2+CH4+Other gases

• Fuel includes coal, Oil, Petrol, Diesel,
  Kerosence, ect..
Industries
Deforestation
Carbon dioxide vs. Global temperature graph
Effects of
global warming
Melting polar ice caps will raise ocean
 levels;
Heat waves and droughts will be more
frequent.
Forest fire increased due to hot
              winds
The Spread of Disease

Up to 300,000 people a year dying
 – partly from the spread of
 tropical diseases.
More than a million species
 worldwide could be extinct by
 2050.
Increase in frequent volcanic
   eruptions due to rise in
       temperatures
WHAT CAN WE DO?
Energy Conservation
Use Alternate sources of energy
• Solar Wind Hydroelectric
  Geothermal

Effects of global warming

Editor's Notes

  1. Hello Every one,We are so busy with our routine activities these days, so in order to get a little relaxed and also be aware of our environment, I have chosen this Global Warming topic. Lets have a look at it. ..
  2. This is the Outline of My PresentationWhat is Global WarmingWarming is because of…How are we effectedWays to stop/control global warming
  3. First of all we should know What is Global WarmingWarmingof earth, that is increase of the average temperature on Earth.
  4. Some Facts about our earth atmosphere.
  5. The average temperature of Earth according to NASA figures is 15°Celsius (°Fahrenheit). The hottest temperature ever recorded on our planet was 70.7°Celsius (159.26°Fahrenheit) in the Lut Desert of Iran in 2005. The average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8°Celsius (1.4°Fahrenheit) since 1880Between 1870 and 2004, global average sea levels rose 17 cm (6.7 in)
  6. The main causes are…Green house effectPollutionDeforestation
  7. Generally Greenhouses are used to grow plants, especially in the winter. Greenhouses work by trapping heat from the sunThe “greenhouse effect” is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth’s atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in light but keep heat from escaping, In this image the greenhouse allows the sun light reflect back into the atmosphere, but the glass walls prevent heat from escaping. Similarly, the greenhouse gases play the role of glass walls in the earth atmosphere. The more greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere, the more heat gets trapped.
  8. We will see how it happensFirst of all, when sun rays fall onto the Earth’s surface, it is absorbed and then radiated back into the atmosphere as heat. In the atmosphere, the “greenhouse” gases trap some of this heat, and the rest escapes into space.
  9. What is Green house Gas ?A gas which traps the sun's heatwhat are greenhouse gases?Water vapor is released from Evaporation of water from oceansand lakesCarbon dioxide mainly produced by burning of Fossil fuels like Coal , petrol, diesel and other Gases.Methane is released from decomposing organic matter and waste dumps.CHLORO FLUORO CARBONS(CFC’s) : These are released from plastic, foam packaging ,AC’s and Refrigerator. These are the main effecting gases in earth atmosphere
  10. Next Cause is Pollution Global warming is mainly caused by air pollution occurs mainly due to Automobile and Industries.
  11. Fuel when burnt releases high levels of greenhouse gases such as CO2, Carbon monoxide, Methane resulting in global warming. This is the most important cause that is playing a lead role which requires much attention.1 liter of petrol (octane) when used, produces about 1 Kg of water vapourand 2.17 Kg of CO2.
  12. Carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous oxide and other Greenhouse gases are highly emitted during Industrial activities like burning of coal, Manufacturing of compounds, power generation etc that results in Global Warming.
  13. This is also one of the main cause of global warming.Plants intake carbon dioxide and release oxygen. With Deforestation there are no plants left to reduce the carbon dioxide levels due to which there is rise in Carbon dioxide (CO2) levels resulting in global warming.Burning of forests also produces carbon dioxide.
  14. According to a survey these is the evidence that Carbon dioxide is Cause to increase average temperature.
  15. Now we will see what are the main effects of global warming.
  16. Due to Global warming the ice caps present at the poles started melting slowly wherein. According to Studiessay that the Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050.
  17. Heat waves and droughts will be more frequent due to raising earth atmospherictemperature.
  18. Wild fires will be more frequent due to hot winds
  19. Spread of DiseasesOne of the survey says that up to 3 lakh people dying every year due to spread of seasonal diseases
  20. More than a Million species world wide could be extinct.
  21. Increase in frequent volcanic eruptions occur due to global warming.
  22. Let us now see Ways to stop/Control global warming
  23. Energy ConservationIt is one of the most important task that should be considered. Using alternate sources of energy is better way to conserve energy that reduces the use of fuel. Solar , wind, Hydroelectric , are the methods used for generating power and for safe environment.Solar :Solar cells can convert sunlight to electric energyWind: wind turbines can convert wind energy to electric energy.Hydroelectric: the production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing waterGeothermal: Geothermal power plants convert energy in underground steam to electric energy.
  24. The other way to control Global Warming is to follow 3R formula.
  25. Instead of throwing things away, try to find ways to use them againPaper can be reused for various purposes – Packing, Covers and boxes - decorative purposesPlastic bags can be used for carrying small things
  26. Reducing the amount of waste you produce is the best way to help the environment. In Daily life Avoid plastic as it can not be decomposed. Instead, use Paper bags and cups as these are eco friendly.Reduce the usage of fuel.
  27. In an average house hold, the utilization is considered as shown hereAC – 39% Fridge – 18%Lights – 11%Can we do some thing to reduce utilization???
  28. CFLs use 80% less energy than a regular bulb.
  29. Planting trees help reduce Carbon dioxide levels in the Earth’s atmosphere by which we can control global warming.A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime. So lets make a habit to plant a tree on every occasion we celebrate…
  30. Finally I would like to say Save Environment and Save life.
