3. Kanban in a Nutshell
- It is a Japanese word (かんばん(看板) ,means
signboard or billboard.
- is a scheduling system for lean and just in time
production.
-is a pull based system.
-aims at minimising waste.
-tries to limit the work at any stage.
4. Lean production: maximising customer value where as
minimising waste or creating more value for customers
with fewer resources.
Just in time: produce only what is needed and when it
is needed.
Push method: a method in which production of the
item begins in advance of customer needs.
Pull method: a method in which customer demand
activates production of the service or item.
5. History of kanban

Toyota in 1953

6. Types of kanban
Raw Material Kanban: tells suppliers when to send how
much of a particular item to a particular place.
In Process Kanban: determines the amount of work-in-
progress that can be kept between any two operations in a
process.
Finished Goods Kanban: determines the amount of a
product to be kept on hand at any given time. Removal of
material from the finished goods kanban acts as a signal for
more of that product to be manufactured.
