Born to Rajiv Gandhi who was a former Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi who is the President of the Indian National
Congress, Rahul Gandhi's future is set to be even greater than his past. Great grandson to India's first Prime Minister,
Jawaharlal Nehru and grandson to Feroze Gandhi, a former politician and surrounded by a family of politics-related
professionals, it seems the world is yet to see more of this man Rahul Gandhi, who has eyes set for the premiership.
Presently, he is the heir to the influential Nehru Gandhi political empire.

As Rahul Gandhi’s profile shows, the life and times of Rahul reads like a fairy tale. Born in 19th June 1970, Rahul has
come of age as a man of the people. He has continuously engaged the powers- be it the issue affecting the local
people from supporting agitating farmers seeking more compensation for their property to putting the government
to task to empower dalits among other vulnerable groups in the society.

Rahul Gandhi was born into a political family and most of his life he has spent rubbing shoulders with the high and
mighty in the social, business and political circles.
Rahul spent the better part of his early life in New Delhi, together with his grandmother who was serving as a Prime
Minister before she was assassinated in 1984. Due to security reasons, Rahul and his sister Priyanka Vadra had no
choice but to attend homeschooling until 1989 when he attended St. Stephen's College for his undergraduate studies.
Following the assassination of his father in 1991, Rahul Gandhi had to shift college. This saw him study overseas under
a pseudonym. When he finally graduated with degrees in philosophy international relations from Cambridge
University and Rollins University respectively, he secured a job with Monitor Group (London) as a Management
Consultant prior to founding Backstops Services Private Ltd in Mumbai.
Political Life
Being born to political parents, grandparents and great grandparents, one cannot really state when Rahul's political
life began.
Rahul Gandhi officially entered politics in 2004, after he vied for a Parliamentary seat in Amethi constituency, winning
with a landslide majority.
Later in 2007, Rahul Gandhi became Indian National Congress' General Secretary and the chairperson of National
Students Union of India and Indian Youth Congress.
In a bid to revamp the Congress party and to steer it to greater heights, Rahul Gandhi was made Congress Vice
President in January 2013, and is now responsible for developing new ideas that will help the party effectively counter
modern-day challenges.
Despite the Congress' loss during the 2012 polls in Uttar, Rahul is still in a strong position to pave way for his political
prospects as India's future prime minister.
Other Special Interests and Activities
A strong advocate of social equality and social justice, Rahul Gandhi has special interests in promoting basic education
to all children in India, social empowerment of the disfranchised people in India and conservation of marine
ecosystems. The outburst by Rahul over the 2013 Naxal attack at Chhattisgarh that killed senior Congress leaders is
only one of the many indications of how human rights issues are close to his heart.
Some of the foundations Rahul has been associated with include Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial
Trust and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund among others.
Rahul remains a diehard fan of cricket and an excellent rifle shooter.
