physically and emotionally healthy
• Students also learn the life skills that essential to
keep safe
• Promotes physical activity
3. Why do we learn PDHPE?
Many instantly think ‘sport’ when PDHPE is mentioned
but the subject also covers personal development
and health.
• Students need to understand the factors that
influence personal health choices
• Distinguish between safe and unsafe living
environments
• Health priorities of young people of drug education
• Fitness and physical activity
• Children protection
• Nutrition
4. How is PDHPE taught?
• PDHPE is broken down into two separate lessons –
practical and theory
• Following the Key Learning Areas and integrating
other subjects into PDHPE
• Taught 1-2 times a week, roughly 1 hour each lesson
5. Why is it important?
• It is important for each and every individual to
maintain a balanced, healthy and happy lifestyle
and we need to build this habit at a young age
• Students learn about various components such as:
o How to maintain an active lifestyle
o Elements of dance
o Games and sports
o Growth and development i.e. the body
o Gymnastics
o Interpersonal relationships e.g. bullying
o Personal health choices e.g. nutrition
o Personal safety e.g. road safety

• It’s best to inform and educate children whilst they
are at a young age
• Maintaining healthy choices and a balanced
lifestyle usually starts at a young age, so therefore
it’s best to start to build the habit
