1. Outline what is meant by Christian Moral Vision.
Christian Moral Vision
Moral vision is an awareness of what is right and wrong. Christian moral vision is
an awareness of what is right and wrong influenced by Christian faith. Jesus is the
founder of Christianity and Christian moral vision comes from him. Key features of
Christian moral vision are the teaching of Jesus and the life of Jesus. One of the
great teachings of Jesus is the commandment to love. One day when he was
teaching he was asked what Jewish commandment was the most important and
he answered : “ the most important one is this ---- Love the lord your God and
love your neighbour as yourself” Therefore when faced with moral decisions
Christians will always do what God wants and put the well-being of other people
first. The Sermon on the Mount in which Jesus outlined the Beatitudes is also a
key feature of Christian Moral Vision. This also challenges Christians on how they
should act when faced with a moral decision. In the parables Jesus told people
how to act. In the Good Samaritan Jesus challenged the Jewish people to
consider everyone your neighbour and treat them with love and respect. In the
Miracles Jesus showed people how they should treat other. He healed blind
Bartimaeus . By healing people he allowed them back into society again and this
enabled them to be equals with others in their communities. In table-fellowship
Jesus ate with people like tax collectors. This challenged people to include
everyone at their table. The moral vision of a Christian will be influenced by these
factors. Christians will always try to take into account the views of Jesus when
facing a moral decision.
