Editor's Notes
- Due to COVID-19 the electrical and structural compliance priorities have been put on the back burn. But there was still some more follow up work on dust issues such as the changes in dust limitations now set in the legislation
- There were 20 less incidents reported for the same period last year Incidents that occur under the PMH roads
- The regulator undertook 355 assessments at 149 mines averaging 30 assessments per month visiting almost 13 mines per month This is just the compliance program mines.
- There are mainly 2 areas for improvement Conducting a risk assessment to determine if a mine survey plan & mine surveyor required Nominating an electrical tradesperson who has accepted the nomination in the management structure Areas where mines are doing well Having an appropriate qualified quarry manager
- There are mainly 4 areas for improvement Intersection layouts Protecting service located near roads Segregation of vehicles and pedestrians Having set of road stndards Areas where mines are doing well Operators are aware of safety critical components, positive communications, traffic management methods
- There are mainly 4 areas for improvement Training in the use of and maintenance of PPE and the methods for controlling dust Identifying all of the controls, eg dust extractors, dust suppressions systems, etc Identifying all the activities that generate dust and expose workers to this hazard Maintaining implemented controls Areas where mines are doing well Identifying if quartz exist and the % of quartz Workplace monitoring is improving
- There are mainly 4 areas for improvement Mine conduct a risk assessment in relation to Covid-19 Controls if a worker is identified of having signs of Covide-19 Controls to minimise risk to person identified as high risk Tracing workers/visitors Areas where mines are doing well Implementing operational changes Having adequatre supplies for hygene and PPE and implementing those supplies
