         ICT Capability
“The new Australian Curriculum requires students to develop
ICT capability as they learn to use ICT effectively and

    appropriately to access, create and
communicate information and ideas, solve problems and
work collaboratively in all learning areas at

school, and in their lives beyond school”

The world is not the
same as it was 15, 10, 5
or even 1 year ago. This
  is a fact. The digital
   world in which our
     children exist is
    changing the way
      children think.
Today’s learners are not the same
   learners that schools were
     originally designed for.

•iPads are not a substitute for tools we are already using;
they are a tool that can be used when they allow for
outcomes to achieved in ways not previously possible.
Effective teachers don’t
     take students to a
destination. They provide
them with the tools to get
    there on their own.

   Technology
Our School ICT Vision
Our Lady of the Cape Primary School endeavours to
provide all staff and students with the skills, tools and
mind set to achieve success in a rapidly changing
technological and information rich world.  We aim to
develop our staff, students and parents into responsible
digital citizens who are able to interact
collaboratively as members of the connected global
     community. By integrating information and
communication technologies into all areas of the
Australian Curriculum we aim to provide powerful
and effective tools to engage students, empower
teachers and involve parents in developing
                 lifelong learners.

• Teaching and learning success with the iPads depends on a supportive
    school and home environment.
• The trial has shown that the outcomes we
set out to investigate could all be
achieved through the use of iPads...

• But importantly, it's the quality of the
teaching and support that makes this
  possible, not just the devices.
So what makes the
iPad the device of
      choice?

Questions?
Here at OLC we appreciate the genuine concern of some parents
regarding the negative impact of excessive screen time. Finding the right
combination of online and traditional teaching and learning tools to
meet the broad array of learning styles remains one of the greatest
challenges in today’s teaching environment. As a staff we highly value the
importance of teaching tools and techniques such as guided questioning,
discussions, explanations, excursions, incursions, group work, role
playing, debate, pencils, paper and books. All of these tools and the skills
that are developed in using them are considered fundamental in
developing your child as a learner. We believe technology should only be
used when outcomes can be effectively enhanced through the use of the
technology, or where technology can help a teacher better address
student learning needs. Only a continuous assessment of learning and
teaching styles and of technological tools including the iPad will help to
appropriately address these issues and best meet student learning needs.
As a staff we are committed to maintaining that assessment, and to
ensuring a balanced teaching and learning approach. We believe that in a
world where lifelong learning is essential for students’ long-term success,
only students who experience learning in positive and balanced learning
environments are likely to continue their journeys toward becoming
                         successful lifelong learners.

  • 163. Here at OLC we appreciate the genuine concern of some parents regarding the negative impact of excessive screen time. Finding the right combination of online and traditional teaching and learning tools to meet the broad array of learning styles remains one of the greatest challenges in today’s teaching environment. As a staff we highly value the importance of teaching tools and techniques such as guided questioning, discussions, explanations, excursions, incursions, group work, role playing, debate, pencils, paper and books. All of these tools and the skills that are developed in using them are considered fundamental in developing your child as a learner. We believe technology should only be used when outcomes can be effectively enhanced through the use of the technology, or where technology can help a teacher better address student learning needs. Only a continuous assessment of learning and teaching styles and of technological tools including the iPad will help to appropriately address these issues and best meet student learning needs. As a staff we are committed to maintaining that assessment, and to ensuring a balanced teaching and learning approach. We believe that in a world where lifelong learning is essential for students’ long-term success, only students who experience learning in positive and balanced learning environments are likely to continue their journeys toward becoming successful lifelong learners.
