The Introduction
Intro-A tool to aid Hansei
      ONE OF THE CRITICAL BUT OFTEN MISSED STEPS IN
    IMPROVING IS REFLECTION THAT LEADS TO ACTION. IN
   LEAN, THE JAPANESE WORD HANSEI IS USED. HANSEI IS
   THIS KIND OF PAUSING TO LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED
       AND TO IDENTIFY KAIZEN OPPORTUNITIES. WHAT
     FOLLOWS IS A TOOL TO AID IN THIS ACTIVITY. THE T-
   MODEL PROVIDES A FRAMEWORK TO ASSESS WHERE WE
    ARE IN KEY ASPECTS OF OUR RELATIONSHIPS. WE MAY
  REVIEW WHERE WE ARE WITH TOOLS AND PROCESSES, BUT
     OFTEN DO NOT TAKE THE TIME TO ENSURE THAT OUR
        RELATIONSHIPS ARE WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.
  RELATIONSHIPS FUNCTION MUCH LIKE OPERATING SYSTEM
      SOFTWARE THAT WORK BEHIND THE MORE EVIDENT
    THINGS WE DO. LET’S GET STARTED. -TOM CURTIS 2011

What memories do they have of our time spending?

Do I spend enough time with them? Individually?

Do I know how they are doing? Worries? Wishes?

How would they change how we spend time?
Trust
Do others trust me?

Have I created an environment where we can have
genuine conversations? Discuss concerns?

Do I keep all my promises and commitments?

Do I trust them? If not why not?

How can I enhance trust trust?

What would help them feel safer and more secure?

Where do I want our relationship to be in a year?

  • 4. Intro-A tool to aid Hansei ONE OF THE CRITICAL BUT OFTEN MISSED STEPS IN IMPROVING IS REFLECTION THAT LEADS TO ACTION. IN LEAN, THE JAPANESE WORD HANSEI IS USED. HANSEI IS THIS KIND OF PAUSING TO LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND TO IDENTIFY KAIZEN OPPORTUNITIES. WHAT FOLLOWS IS A TOOL TO AID IN THIS ACTIVITY. THE T- MODEL PROVIDES A FRAMEWORK TO ASSESS WHERE WE ARE IN KEY ASPECTS OF OUR RELATIONSHIPS. WE MAY REVIEW WHERE WE ARE WITH TOOLS AND PROCESSES, BUT OFTEN DO NOT TAKE THE TIME TO ENSURE THAT OUR RELATIONSHIPS ARE WHERE THEY NEED TO BE. RELATIONSHIPS FUNCTION MUCH LIKE OPERATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE THAT WORK BEHIND THE MORE EVIDENT THINGS WE DO. LET’S GET STARTED. -TOM CURTIS 2011

  • 9. Teach How do I teach those I work with? Am I teaching by example? Am I using enough hands-on activities? Am I equipping them to practice kaizen and create standards ? What should I be teaching more clearly? How can I improve my teaching?
  • 10. Treat How do I treat others? With interest? With respect? How do I treat their concerns and questions? Do I control my frustration or anger? Do I help them see what is possible? How can I improve how I treat them? How do they treat their responsibilities? One another?
  • 11. Time Do I spend focused time with my children? How do we spend time together? Is it uplifting? What memories do they have of our time spending? Do I spend enough time with them? Individually? Do I know how they are doing? Worries? Wishes? How would they change how we spend time?
  • 12. Trust Do others trust me? Have I created an environment where we can have genuine conversations? Discuss concerns? Do I keep all my promises and commitments? Do I trust them? If not why not? How can I enhance trust trust? What would help them feel safer and more secure? Where do I want our relationship to be in a year?
  • 14. Review your Answers Where do you see gaps from needed levels? What answers were surprising? Are there patterns or themes in your answers? What elements are most important to you? What elements are most important to others?
