5. Main reasons for migration to Odoo
● Define and enforce internal processes
● Needed inventory with serial number tracking
● Promised integration between Shopify and Hubspot was very limited
● Needed to have tens of Shopify plugins to improve the functionality
● Needed to migrate manufacturing and BoMs from spreadsheets into
regular production and subcontracting
6. Takeouts from the migration process
Ideal would be to combine Success packs of Odoo with implementation company
unfortunately this is not supported by Odoo
3rd party apps without any rating/reviews and being forced to buy them often as Blackboxes
with limited money back guarantees
Staged approach is doable
What is promoted at Odoo pages doesn't need to be true (Odoo documents)
Having real time online amicable, knowledgeable and forthcoming support is crucial
lucky to work with excellent people at Portcities Vietnam
7. Migration process
Done
1. E-shop and web
2. Inventory and manufacturing
3. Ticketing/support
4. RMA process (in the process)
5. Accounts/contacts/deals
To be done
● More workflows and automation
● Costing and financial controlling
● Hopefully chat
● Google Merchant
8. Used 3rd party modules (should be part of basic Odoo)
● Stock reservation
● Minimum of Quantity in eshop
● Website Notify Product Availability
Planned 3rd party modules (should be part of basic Odoo)
● Google Merchant integration
● RMA process
9. Surprises
● Enthusiastic community
● Very capable and customizable and fast UX
● Good Odoo architecture
● Very limited and often confusing Odoo documentation
● Very fluctuating level of Odoo support
● No proper upkeep of older Odoo native modules (e.g. Fedex integration)
● Totally over promised and miscommunicated and not usable Odoo Documents
10. Biggest pluses
● Remarkable integrated system at fair price with very few quirks
● Stable
● Fast
● Highly customizable
● Really comparable to SAP and NetSuite but far more CRM centric
● Constant improvements
● Portcities able to provide round the clock real time very patient, knowledgeable and
professional support
11. Biggest functional issues
● Missing a critical component of any modern website - Live Chat - the current version
seems to be at level where Chat was 10 years ago and cannot be replaced
● Missing any Gmail/G Suite Mail integration
● Missing LinkedIn in Social crucial for any B2B
● Missing proper Knowledge base and 3rd party app on par with
Freshdesk/Zendesk/Hubspot KB
● Editing list views through XML modification seems to be from last century
● No published DB scheme
● Cumbersome workflow definitions
● Branded Odoo emails going to customers - debranding costs 1700 euro
12. Biggest procedural issues
● Paid support with SLA is totally missing
● Not functional and not listening and not reacting product managers (E-commerce, chat,
shipping integration, IoT)
● Limited functionality and proactivity of the account managers
● No system for customer voting on new features/improvements
