2. HISTORICISM
In the first half of the 19th century architects drew inspiration from styles of the
past. Some buildings continued to be built in New Classicist style, but there was a
revival of styles of the past: Neo-Byzantine, Neo- Romanesque, Neo-Gothic,
Neo-Mudéjar, Neo-Baroque…

11. ART NOUVEAU
-It appeared in Europe at the end of the 19th
century and broke up with the predominant
historicist currents.
- Inspiration from nature: curved lines,
organic motifs (flowers, plants), exuberant
decoration.
-Works of art understood as a whole,
including all arts and crafts (architecture,
sculpture, painting, furniture, ceramics,
wrought ironwork, stained glasses…).
-Main centres : Brussels, Paris and Barcelona.

pieces).
- Many of his works
were commissioned by
the Güell family.
