What are the limitations of the Partner Developer Edition?
Lack of demo data.
The PDE is a completely blank environment, so getting started on your demo will require
loading or creating demo data.
Does not contain every Salesforce product or feature you may need.
To add Service Cloud and other Salesforce features a case must be opened on the
partner community requesting additional licenses. CPQ requires installing the
managed package.
Does not contain demo tooling.
The PDE lacks the demo tools contained in the SDO, therefore demo setup could take
longer.

What are the limitations of the SDO?
Expires in a short amount time
The SDO expires after 30 days. If you are
working on an opportunity or have a business
case for an extension, this requires opening a
case from the Partner Community and could
take several days.
Does not automatically update
The only way to get the latest version of SDO
with new features and bug fixes requires
spinning up a whole new SDO. New SDOs are
released approximately every three weeks.
The SDO is complex
Unless you have been trained on the SDO and
practice your demo, it’s easy to get lost
making our solution look harder not easier
SDO Limitations
Does not support development of managed
applications
Only developer editions such as the PDE can
be used to develop your manage packages.
Does not support Trialforce
The SDO is not a good place to develop
complex reusable demos because there is no
way to clone your work.
Customers can not touch the SDO
Under no circumstances can a customer touch
the SDO. The SDO contains tools which
customers are not allowed to see. If your
customer needs some hands-on time use a
different type of environment.
