8. The Cherokee Alphabet And How To Use It
Writing in Cherokee symbols if you've never heard of a syllabary before:
• The Cherokee alphabet is technically not an alphabet at all, but a syllabary. That means each
Cherokee symbol represents a syllable, not just a consonant or a vowel. So using the English
alphabet, the Cherokee word ama ("water") is written with three letters: a, m, and a. Using the
Cherokee syllabary, the same word is written with only two characters, and (pronounced "a"
and "ma.")
Assim, usando o alfabeto inglês, a palavra Cherokee ama ("água") é
9. For this reason, Cherokee symbols
are usually arranged in chart form,
with one column for each Cherokee
vowel and one row for each
Cherokee consonant. Here is a
picture of the Cherokee syllabary
chart:
Por esta razão, os símbolos Cherokee

de gráfico, com uma coluna para cada
vogal cherokee e uma linha para cada
consoante Cherokee. Aqui está uma foto

army forced the Cherokee nation to move from their homes in the Southeast all
the way to the state of Oklahoma. Over 4,000 Cherokee people died on the

Luta
terrível, entre dois lobos.
Um é o medo, a cólera, a inveja, a tristeza, o
remorso, a arrogância a autopiedade, a culpa, o
ressentimento, a inferioridade e a mentira.
O Outro é a paz, a esperança, o amor, a alegria, a
delicadeza, a benevolência, a amizade, a empatia, a
generosidade, a verdade, a compaixão e a fé.
todas as outras pessoas…”
