Editor's Notes

  1. INTRODUCTION # welcome EVERYBODY BEFORE WE GET STARTED – HONOR THE CIRCUMSTANCES that bring us together today – THANKYOU Liquid learning Ian Metcalf Ron Laurie Today’s presentation will cover 3 TOPICS --- The - integral theory of ken Wilber ----- integral AQAL Assessment ----- INTEGRAL LIFE PRACTICE or ILP HOW THESE 3 APPLICATIONS or APPROACHES CAN BE USED for personal and professional development AND increase leadership capacity -- and becoming integral rather than reading about it – 1 st person embodiment rather than just 3 rd person objective use A little about me – Cert 4 - Life Coaching from the Life Coaching Institute Australia 2006 Specialty Stream in Executive Coaching Integral Coaching Canada Ken Wilber’s work for about 15 years Friends with a lot of the students from the JFK masters program expose me to some if the current emerging insights in INTEGRAL THEORY
  2. # A brief over view of today We will first look at exactly what is ILP What it can do for----- development ----- leadership # A brief look at a Design Over View – The process of constructing ILP # AQAL assessment – Ken Wilber’s All quadrant, All level, All line , All state, All type An practical but extremely diluted demonstration of ILP - How to use it both to awaken your unfulfilled potential # A quick look at the some suggestions for business heading into the future. # Q and A
  3. # What is Integral Life practice – # Is a way of embodying all the parts and potential of your self to create ongoing permanent change. By selecting personal activities or practices in all the 4 QUADRANTS , that will create greater choices on not only how you see the world but more i mportantly the amount of awareness you bring to those choices # ILP EMBODIES – GROWS – BRINGS AWARENESS to all the 4 perspectives of ken Wilber’s AQAL integral framewor k as discussed in Ian Metcalf’s presentation this morning THE 1 st ------ Person Perspective --- Thoughts Emotions – Feelings – intentions THE 2 nd --------- Person or “We” perspective ---- Cultural and Communicative Spaces THE 3 rd ------- Person or IT or It's perspective ---- the external physical body and behavior ----- systems theory and systems interaction # These changes mentioned before can and will extend in to both your Personal and Professional Life # It can and will make you both a better Manager or Leader, AWAKE HUMAN BEING
  4. # INTEGRAL LIFE PRACTICE ILP IS DESCRIBED AS Body, Mind and Spirit in Self Culture and Nature EMBODYING THE 6 PARTS ABOVE INTO AN INTEGRAL WHOLE FUNCTIONAL AWAKE WHOLE DESIGN CAN TAKE - 4-6 WEEKS PROCESS - INTIMATE AND PERSONAL ILP An extremely intense path to accelerated human growth. EXAMPLE – HANDOUTS Having said that it can lead to Better Management / Leadership Capacity Greater ability to handle complexity Manage change more effectively Expand emotional intelligence range Understand & Manage – your- self / Emotions / Thoughts more effectively Understand cultural interactions in the business environment more effectively manage relationships and networks more creatively and progressively And gives you a wider view of reality and its construction Create flexibility and tolerance, compassion for not only yourself but others it extend nearly every capacity you have ----and introduce you to new ones you never know you had # What I will say is that ILP Its is not purely a business application --- It is a process and a commitment to increase your awareness and contact with all aspects of the world The power of this process is the accuracy of it’s ability to target multiple areas of growth at once –
  5. # Transforming You - using Ken Wilber’s 4 quadrants or perspectives on reality. Today we will cover ----- gaining greater capacity to grow, experience and live in the all the 4 major perspectives offered by integral theory the 4 Quadrants. I - The Self – upper left- thoughts- feeling -emotions - We - Relationships / culture - lower left - family relations – work relationships – interpersonal dynamics - meanings It - Biological objective nature – , human behavior – human body – energy –physical health It’s - Physical systems – lower right – work place - workplace systems
  6. # This is a brief look at the design over view This process has three distinct stages not including the AQAL assessment. VISIONING – INQUIRING - Finding out where you are – and what’s missing or holding you back – and re-owning so parts of your self you may have split off DESIGNING – MAPPING – creating a personalized plan for your future PARTICIPATING AND RECORDING – participating and BEING in the practices , and recording how to map the progress. Also FEELING the movement and growth. ----- Presence ------- and being ------- it is an awakening,------ and for some people a rude awakening . TRIPLE LOOP FEEDBACK # Each of these stages has three filters or loops of validation or perspectives that we pass each of the processes through to get the greatest amount of feedback and input – each LOOP PROVIDES DIFFERENT KINDS OF FEEDBACK 1 st Person - personal reference about my thoughts my feelings emotions 2 nd Person – a like to call getting a second opinion - An engaged and reflective dialogue with another person ( usually a coach) – to avoid to many Personal Preferences and tendencies. 3 rd Person the external world reference – Results, Changes, Problems and external references Most People want to play their the strong suit the entire time.
  7. Educators - Employment – Trainers – I ll be covering these elements as I would as a coach – from assessment for capacity and growth. # AQAL Assessment covers all of Ken Wilber’s 5 major components and as you will see AQAL assessment is extremely inclusive and covers an enormous amount of ground with those being. Because it covers not only the parts of the human being but the spaces and perspectives that a human being inhabits. Quadrants – 4 Perspectives Levels – Developmental worldview – Outside view Lines – Multiple intelligence -- Personal inside view of development States –- managing states of Energy - Types – Behavioral Orientations – personality typologies –such as Myer Briggs- Disc- Enneagram All of these Components when used together allow businesses 1 -To functional fit the job towards particular people 2- Identify and target weaknesses for improvement - Increase leadership potential and capacity. 3- Be more informed about the components of businesses and how to speak to particular offices and positions and understand their needs and wants. Today’s focus will be just a brief going over of each of the 5 components with a lead up to the ILP - just to giver you a brief insight of how deep human functioning assessment can be
  8. Quadrants The 4 primary perspectives of reality according to Ken Wilber’s Integral theory Think of these as the ( Length Width and Height) Dimensions of reality Upper Left is related things that are only privilege to yourself- thoughts feelings emotions : First Person pro-noun _ I or ME Lower left is communicative space – understanding where people can share a space or quality where you can communicate with another person – a cultural engagement : We or US – Second Person pro-noun Upper right is is the Exterior of the Individua l – empirical and behavioral orientations Third person singular pronoun IT - L ower Right is Management of Collective Empirical Systems: Summary : From a coaching perspective – where does this person orientate - Where are they lacking
  9. Levels of Development in Human Beings what you are seeing is a basic map of how some of the capacities or parts of the humans beings mature or evolve some of these capacities include : World views , Self concept , Values - Spiral dynamics, Orders of Consciousness, Cultural world views, Needs and so on. YOU CAN BE A LEADER AT ANY OF THESE STAGES – BUT TO BE AN INTEGRAL LEADER YOU HAVE TO BE AT LEAST INTO THE SECOND TIER PROGRESSION NOT TIME DEPENDANT AGE IS NO GURANTEE YOU CAN SKIP STAGES FREE RIDE CUTURAL MERCHANISMS – SCHOOL – UNI – The First 6 stages are what we call 1 st tier stages - INDIGO - GREEN , This are motivated by the needs or desires to get something from the world – money ,Love, Status. The Locus and focus of ones desire is ones self or a group familiar to them. 97-98% of people In business and the general population fit in theses 1 st tier stages 2 nd Tier and this is where there is a profound Shift / Change in the motivation of leaders The focus shifts towards SUMMARY This is the region of Integral Leadership …… Benefits of a Second Tier approach Jim Collins - Good to Great Out of the 500 companies 11 companies that changed things around all of the CEO’s were the equivalent of - Second tier Level 5 leaders - Jim Collins Spiral Wizards Spiral Dynamics Ego development – Post Autonomous Individual Probabilty waves
  10. How to identify LEVELS in individuals So if you’re a business looking to get a rough orientation of where at potential or current employee is currently at … Then in my opinion this is a great place to start …. This is Susanne Cook Greuter’s Ego Development Test :The Leadership development profile developed in conjunction William Torbert’s leadership maturity framework based on Jane Loevinger’s EGO DEVELOPMENT SUMMARY - # I find this test great for coaching to get a general back up to a hunch and can inform or fill in some minor intricacies Habitually make sense of the world Unique strengths and weaknesses likely fall back positions Areas of greatest challenge and possibilities areas for potential growth and transformation
  11. LINES OF DEVELOPMENT IN HUMAN BEINGS Integral Psychograph 24 different types of intelligence For most part though for business assessment we tend to focus on These particular 6 Cognitive – ability to take perspective Self – Ego development- self concept Emotional – capacity for emotional stability Moral – ability to make choices that affect others well being Interpersonal – communications – comfortable with others Spiritual - what is of ultimate concern EACH OF THESE CAPACITIES GOES THORUGH 4 MAIN STAGES WITH UNIVERSAL FOCUSES 1 ST STAGE FOCUS ON ME – EGO CENTRIC 2 ND STAGE FOCUS ON MY GROUP OR GROUP INDENTITY – SOCIOCENTRIC 3 RD STAGE FOCUS ON EVERYONE - WORLD CENTRIC 4 TH STAGE FOCUS ON EVERYHITNG - KOSMO CENTRIC SUMMARY – SO ITS TO SEE THAT KNOWING THE LEVELS OF DEVELOPMENT IN PARTICULAR AREA S OF A POTENTIAL EMPLOYEE COULD HELP CHOOSE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB
  12. MANAGING ENERGY : Managing energy in business people is one of the trickiest things to do – as most corporate executives and leaders are highly driven people … A what point does a positive – DRIVE – become a NEGATIVE At what point does MORE actually become LESS – What and Who does this Effect and how do we turn that around – once again by increased awareness Hand up who has heard or used The power of full engagement – These states above closely reflect Steven Covey’s 4 th effective habit – Think Win-Win SUMMARY : As moving more than one negative quality is difficult ---- QUANTITY or QUALITY Usually I focus on moving into a the negative component into a positive space.
  13. TYPES Now Finally for the last of Ken Wilber’s 5 integral components … Types most of you here would at some point would have completed some form of psychological assessment . I’ve used three but there are so many more Hands up here who has completed ---- Myers Briggs ---- Disc ---- The Enneagram Behavioral Types I FEEL THAT EVERYONE THAT HAS DONE ONE these profiles become instantly AWARE OF HOW VALUABLE THEY CAN BE . Any of the ones above can be very powerful in helping you understand a part of orientation to the world that you have Types really are only functional once you know what level they are operating from. 1 ST STAGE FOCUS ON ME – EGO CENTRIC 2 ND STAGE FOCUS ON MY GROUP OR GROUP INDENTITY – SOCIOCENTRIC 3 RD STAGE FOCUS ON EVERYONE - WORLD CENTRIC 4 TH STAGE FOCUS ON EVERYHITNG - KOSMO CENTRIC So what really matters is knowing the levels altitude of the client as much as their Type.
