This document outlines mathematics skills and concepts for Stage 6, which includes:
1) Reading and understanding large numbers up to millions, fractions, and decimals.
2) Sequencing numbers forward and backward up to millions, and ordering fractions and decimals.
3) Recalling addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts up to 20, times tables up to 10, and multiplying/dividing by powers of 10.
4) Adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers, identifying place value, rounding, and calculating remainders.
2. Number Identification- Stage 6
• Can you read all the numbers between 0-
1,000,000?
• Can you read any number to three decimal
places?
• Can you read the symbols for any fraction
including 10ths, 100ths, 1000ths and
improper fractions?
3. Sequence & Order- Stage 6
• Can you tell us the number 1, 10, 100 & 1000
forward or backwards from 0-1,000,000?
• Can you tell us any number before and after
from 0-1,000,000?
• Can you tell us forwards and backwards the
sequence of fractions? Or decimals to 10ths &
100ths?
• Can you order whole numbers and fractions?
4. Basic Facts – Stage 6
• Can you recall addition & subtraction facts up
to 20? E.g. 9+5, 13-7
• All your times-tables up to 10x, and the
division facts (family of facts)
• Can you multiply with 10s, 100s & 1000s? E.g.
10x100=, 100x100=
5. Place Value – Stage 6
• Can you add 3-digit numbers to 1000? E.g. 240+760=,
498+502=
• Can you work out remainders e.g. threes in 17=5 with 2
remainder, fives in 48 is 9 with 3 remainder?
• Can you tell us how many 10s, 100s in any 4-digit
number including remainders? E.g. tens in 4562 is 456
tens with 2 remainder
• Can you tell us how many tenths and hundreths in a
number? E.g. 7.2 is 72 tenths
• Can you round whole numbers to nearest 1000 and
decimals to nearest whole number? E.g. 7894 to 8000
and 6.49 to 6.
6. Written Recordings
• Can you record the results of calculations using
addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
equations?
E.g. 349+452
=350+451=801
• Can you show your thinking on a numberline or with a
diagram?
• Can you use ‘column’ addition and subtraction up to 4
digits?
e.g. 476 and 7000
+285 - 586
7. Measurement- Stage 6

units e.g. cm to mm
• Measuring accurately
very tiny and very large
lengths
• Perimeter/area
relationship
• Record data in
table/graph- identify
trends
Time & Temperature

from 10 past is 20 to..
• Tide tables/weather maps
• Thermometers, watches,
stopwatches
