AERODYNAMICS
2. 1 What does aerodynamic means?
Aerodynamics is the study of moving gases (in this
case air) over a body in motion, and how that airflow
will affect the body's movement through the flow. car
aerodynamics make the car more safer and make it
more fuel efficient. It is used in most of the cars today
specially in race cars because there is more need of
aerodynamics in high speeds cars.
3. 2
Aerodynamics- its origin…..
• In the early 1920s engineers began to consider
automobile shape in reducing aerodynamic drag at
higher speeds.
• By the 1950s German and British automotive
engineers systematically analyze the effects of
automotive drag for higher performance vehicles.
• By the late 1960s scientists showed awareness in the
significant increase in sound levels emitted by
automobiles at high speed.
• Soon highway engineers began to design roadways to
consider the speed effects of aerodynamic drag
produced sound levels.

Application of Aerodynamics:
5. Any moving object needs to balance four essential forces .
These forces are introduced whenever an object flies in the air or runs on
the surface of earth.
These forces of aerodynamics are :
Thrust
Lift
Weight
Drag
4 Forces acting on a Body in motion
6. The Designing is a complex process but all the parts and the framing of the
body of the aircraft depends on aerodynamics.
Under this ,it includes the basic phenomenon of designing using the testing
methods .
These testing methods are:
Wind tunnel testing [ initial test ].
Simulation[ initial test ].
Real Demonstrations[ final test ].
5 Designing In Aerodynamics
7. As per the pictures depicting it is a method of testing the design of the a
body by using high speed air flow.
In Aerospace it is an essential criteria which an aircraft has to pass for its
approval by the National Aviation Authority ( NAA ).
In the automobile industry the standards are the same which are governed
by the Industries which are creating it.

Wind tunnel testing
8. Simulation is the process of analyzing and
viewing the object in a 3-dimension
projection.
In large Industries this is done under a
team of experts to continuously improve
the product and for creating new
innovations.
This technique is much less costlier then
wind tunnel testing or testing by the means
of real demonstrations which sometimes
result large loss of properties.

OBJECTIVE OF AERODYNAMICS IN
CARS
Influencing the way a car cuts
through air.
Reducing the drag.
Reducing wind noise.
Prevent Undesired lift forces at
high speeds.
Produces desirable downwards
aerodynamics forces to improve
traction.

OBJECTIVE OF AERODYNAMICS IN
BUILDINGS
To withstand the natural forces of the environment that is the
wind, buildings are designed in a way that it support that and
this allows us to make skyscrapers.
Also they use the same techniques for testing and designing
them as we are using in the other fields.
