● One of the most important responsibilities of a PM is to recommend what the
team should build — you cannot do it all right now, so you must decide what's
most important first
● Consider your customers' needs, your business goals, the competitive
landscape, and — most importantly — your product vision
● Different tools and frameworks can be useful at various stages of company
and product maturity
🧀 Early stage: focus on your wedge
● With limited resources, there's little benefit in ancillary enhancements
● You need to get your foot in the door with customers
● Focus on your primary solution, the Wedge — a single use case that solves an
important need

🍚 Product-market fit: use the RICE framework
● When multiple ideas contribute toward the same goal, organize them with RICE
● R = reach; size of customer base that this project would touch
● I = impact; magnitude of benefit achieved by the customers reached
● C = confidence; level of conviction about reach and impact of this project
● E = effort; resources required to complete this project
● Finally, prioritize by score

● As you enter scale and hypergrowth, it is not enough to focus on a single goal
● You need a portfolio approach to manage multiple projects and goals, and
scheduling these initiatives requires managing dependencies
● But you also need to staff multiple efforts with care, ensuring one project's
progress doesn't negatively impact another

  • 9. 🧠 Prioritization: make the hard choices ● One of the most important responsibilities of a PM is to recommend what the team should build — you cannot do it all right now, so you must decide what's most important first ● Consider your customers' needs, your business goals, the competitive landscape, and — most importantly — your product vision ● Different tools and frameworks can be useful at various stages of company and product maturity
