Low cost accessories for Prom

How to customize your Prom Dress to become the perfect dress you want?
Turning a Prom Dress into a Dream at a Low Cost.
There are already
thousands of articles online telling us how to turn that dress from a “don’t” to a
“do.” What many don’t tell us is how to be cost-effective in your mission to
spruce up your dress and have your dream Prom while using a preowned prom
dressand accessories.
As a prom dame myself with not too much to expend, I can tell you ways to
save on a lot of things while still looking glamorous.
First, don’t over do it with the Accessories I think a safe guideline to go by is
wear no more than two jewelry pieces. A corsage should count as a jewelry
piece (it’d be like a bracelet or a broach). Limiting yourself with jewelry will
help maximize budget and style. Keeping up to two jewelry pieces means
you’ll have to decide exactly what kind of jewelry you favor most with your
dress. It helps you decide which way you absolutely want to go when picking
an accessorizing style your dress. Do you want a style like classic? Chic?
Princess? If your dress has a ton of sequins or micro-beads that glitter in the
light, you might want to avoid wearing jewelry so close to the dress itself.Let’s
face it, this dress alone could be counted as one of your two jewelry pieces.
Next guideline, you don’t necessarily need to cover everything up. Ballroom-
style gloves like the ones that go all the way past your elbows are great for
nearly any dress, but they often don’t look good with a sash, especially when
the dress is as poufy as Cinderella’s. Then it becomes a power struggle of the
most important features. Usually a sash OR gloves works best. Moreover, if
you choose to wear either, you might want to avoid accompanying bracelets or
cocktail rings as they might snag on the sash and they might really start to hurt
your wrist/finger if cutting off circulation in your arm while atop the gloves for
several hours.
Another accessory to consider is anything atop the head. Yes, you can have
earrings and hopefully you take out all your nose and eyebrow piercings (unless
you’re going for an edgy, punk, or goth style, then maybe you should keep
them in—much to your mom’s dismay), but there’s also tiaras or flowers you
can put in your hair, among other things, I personally, went for the flower
effect, getting some impressively blue-violet (live) daisies and baby’s breath to
match my pastel blue dress.
Purses and shoes for Prom are also considered accessories as they complete the
entire ensemble. They can be as far apart in style as you can imagine. My
purse, for example, was actually a fake dog. However, the dog tag spelling out
“Romeo” in fake frosting was actually a real dog’s collar. If you’re going to
have a fake dog for a purse, you probably don’t want to go to the prom wearing
slippers with dog heads on them in an effort to match these things.
The Colors Do Not Have to Match. The items you choose to accompany your
dress do not necessarily need to match the dress’ color. For example, you can
get a simple black dress and style it with some overly large pearl beads and
some white up-to-your-elbow gloves. Suddenly, you’ve mastered a classy yet
stylish look. My favorite color is blue, so when I searched for a dress, blue was
in my criteria of search options. But when I searched for accessories, I went
with whites, silvers, and even sapphire blue for jewelry. Even the daisies in my
hair were a darker blue. The only instance of pastel blue was the dress itself.
All my prom accessories served to accentuate it’s unique color instead of blend
in and disappear.
The Prom Accessories Don’t Have to be Designer-Level. Your accessories
don’t have to be $500 for a pair of earrings and $200 for a pair of shoes.
Costume jewelry is totally acceptable (when done right). Keeping things at a
minimum, again, will ease the budget. Also, if you get your dress somewhere
for cheap online, the money you saved on the cost of your dress can go toward
nice accessories. However, sometimes these accessories can be found at home.
(I wasn’t accessorizing with my dog purse on a daily basis so it was a pleasant
surprise to my friends at prom.) Maybe you can mix and match with friends.
If you’re not having luck at home or with friends, try thrift shops and
consignment shops. They always have tons of costume jewelry. You can also
go to websites likePromAgain.com that focus their energy on the sales of both
prom dresses and prom accessories or eBay that would likely have all your
accessory needs (and wants).
