Sandra asks…

Is there a way to tell when implantation might start if you
conceived??
Trying to conceive after miscarriage, and read on another question where somebody said they
started cramping around the time that implantation would have taken place if they conceived. I
wanna know if there is a time frame after period, LH surge, etc that you can tell when
implantation might take place if you successfully conceived?? Thanks.

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Implantation bleeding usually occurs about 6 days after conception, but can occur as last as 12
days adter conception. Some woman dont experience this, however, until they are due to start
their periods.

Implantation bleeding doesnt always involve bleeding. The other signs can be milkd cramping,
bloating, and a whitish-clear discarge, much like the discharge you get prior to ovulation.
Sometimes, a woman may notice slight bleeding or spotting, usually lasting for 1-3 days, and
pinkish red in color.

                                                                                          1/7
Donna asks…

when do you count ovulation from in terms of pregnancy tests?
on the pregnancy tests where it says you can test 7 days after ovulation, when do you count
ovulation from, is it the first day ovulation ocurred or is it the day inbetween or the last one or
what? because ovulation lasts for about a week right?

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

No, ovulation does not last for a week. When you either see that you have had a temperature
drop and then a spike from a basal body thermometer and have charted this to see that it is
happening or have gotten a positive on an ovulation test that is the the time frame of ovulation.
Ovulation tests only test for the LH surge in your pee. It is the hormone that happens 12-24
hours before ovulation. The only real way to track if you have ovulated is to do BBT and
Ovulation Prediction Testing at the same time. Once you see the spike in the BBT Chart and
confirmation with a Test Strip then you can say that that spike was the day that you Ovulated.
Every day after that is 1 day past ovulation or 1 DPO.
A test that claims that it can detect the pregnancy hormone seven days past ovulation sounds a
bit like a scam to me because the egg, if fertilized, needs at least 7 to 10 days to implant on the
uterine wall. Once it implants, then you start throwing off the pregnancy hormone known as
HCG or human chrionicgonadotropin. Maybe 5 days before your missed period then i’d believe
it. But I wouldn’t test until the day of your period or until you miss your period by 1-2 days.

                                                                                              2/7
Helen asks…

Have you had this with a Ovulation Test?
I got a Clear Blue Easy ovulation kit from my doctor and I’ve started them as per instructed. (I
got put on Clomid so I know which days to take it).

My question is if the indicator line is light blue but darker than yesterday does that mean your
LH is going up? I know that it’s a negative but I was wondering if this mean that my LH was on
the rise and closer to surging.

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

The LH surge is very brief and in order to detect the LH surge, you need to test at the right time
of the month – and the right time of day. The best times to test are between 11am and 3pm and
5pm and 10pm. If you want to make sure that you catch your LH surge, you may want to test
twice a day, once in the earlier time frame and the other in the later time frame. Please keep in
mind that while you may have the initial surge of LH earlier in the day if testing via blood tests,
you will not get a positive result on the ovulation test until 4-5 hours later when the surge
actually reaches your urine. Be sure to test at the same time each day.

Once the LH surge has been detected, successful fertilization is most likely to take place one to
three days following the LH surge – with peak fertility at 36 hours post-LH surge

                                                                                             3/7

when to test after positive opk?
I have finally gotten my positive opk and we had intercourse just right. How many days to I have
to wait to take a test to get an accurate result? I have always heard 14-16 days, but I have seen
girls who have gotten a positive result on 10 dpo. Just wondering.

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Ovulation Tests or Ovulation Predictor Kits allow you to predict ovulation, your most fertile time
of the month. Easy to use, these ovulation tests are excellent tools for predicting ovulation and
can greatly increase your chances of becoming pregnant. Unlike basal body temperature
charting, ovulation tests anticipate ovulation – not just confirm that ovulation has taken place.
And since ovulation occurs only once a month, and the unfertilized egg has a short 24-hour
life-span, predicting ovulation accurately is very helpful when trying to getting pregnant.

Ovulation Tests Mechanism
Ovulation tests work by detecting Luteinizing Hormone (LH). At the beginning of the menstrual
cycle, the body begins to produce follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). FSH facilitates the
formation of a follicle on one of the ovaries. The follicle contains and nurtures the ovum. When a
follicle has adequately matured, a surge of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) causes the follicle to burst
and release the ovum into the fallopian tube – the moment of ovulation.

Throughout the menstrual cycle, a small amount of LH is produced, but during the middle of the
cycle LH briefly and dramatically increases, and is known as LH surge. Elevated quantities of
luteinizing hormone that facilitate ovulation are detected by ovulation tests through anti-LH
antibodies contained in the sensitive testing membrane. Ovulation tests thus allow you to
accurately predict when you will ovulate. A positive result on an ovulation test means that the
woman will most likely become fertile over the next three days – with peak fertility at 36 hours
following the LH surge.

                                                                                             4/7
Ovulation Test Formats
Ovulation tests come in two formats, test strips and midstream tests. Both test formats are
equally reliable.

Test Strip: To use the ovulation test strip, you fill a container with urine and hold the test strip in
the container for several seconds. Midstream tests: To use the Midstream test, hold the test in
your stream of urine.

With most home ovulation testing products, the reaction time of the test is five minutes. At five
minutes, you can interpret the tests. All tests have a “control” color band (or color line) that
indicates whether the test is working or not. Also, the control band provides a color/intensity
baseline by which to interpret the “test” band results. The “test” color band indicates a positive
or negative result.

A positive result (indicating an LH Surge) is indicated by a test band that is of equal or greater
intensity (equal or darker) than the control band. A negative result for the LH Surge is indicated
when the test band is of lesser intensity (lighter) than the control band or cannot be seen. A
negative result means the LH level of the urine sample is at or near its normal level and that the
LH surge is not in progress. Remember, there is always some quantity of LH in your system, so
a light color band in the test region is NOT an indicator of a positive result.

Things to remember when using Ovulation Tests
The LH surge is very brief and in order to detect the LH surge, you need to test at the right time
of the month – and the right time of day. The best times to test are between 11am and 3pm and
5pm and 10pm. If you want to make sure that you catch your LH surge, you may want to test
twice a day, once in the earlier time frame and the other in the later time frame. Please keep in

you will not get a positive result on the ovulation test until 4-5 hours later when the surge
actually reaches your urine. Be sure to test at the same time each day.
Once the LH surge has been detected, successful fertilization is most likely to take place one to
three days following the LH surge – with peak fertility at 36 hours post-LH surge.

                                                                                                  5/7
If ur preggers does the LH surge keep getting darker?
I only ask cause my last pd was april 26th and I spotted some may 31st & june 1st, but I took
clear blue digital & the lh surge keeps getting darker everytime & yes imapeestickfreak so I
took it apart…but it says “not pregnant” maybe I tested to early for digital, cause I took cheap
ones & they say pos..”Don’t be rude thanks”

Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

The digital tests do require a higher concentration of pregnancy hormone to be positive ( 50 –
100 mIU I believe ). If you have taken a regular pregnancy test and read it within the 3 – 5
minute time frame ( 10 minutes max ) – and there was a faint line there with some color, then I
would say you are preg. Maybe calling a doctor to confim the home pee tests with a blood test
would calm the confusion?

Ovulation hormones and pregnancy hormones are almost identical, so yes, after a certain
concentration of pregnancy hormones an ovulation test will turn a dark positive. I tested out the
theory myself, however the Answer Ovulation Strips weren’t turning up a dark positive until
about the 5th – 6th weeks of pregnancy.

Wishing you the best!

                                   Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:

Your chances will be low. Your highest fertile day is the day of an lh surge (24-36 hours before
ovulation). The next highest is the day before and day after (if you didn’t ovulate in the 24 hours
                                   time frame).

I will still try it if money isn’t an issue (if paying for donor) but don’t get your hopes up too
                                   much.
