This document discusses three common film genres: sci-fi, superhero films based on comic books, and real-life events. Sci-fi films often feature aliens, time/space travel, futuristic settings, advanced technologies, and the exploration of science. Superhero films are typically based on Marvel comics and feature a male hero with unknown powers battling villains. Real-life films dramatize actual past events to tell a story while keeping the basis as the true event.
2. Sci-Fi
Sci Fi films tend to
have one of the
following themes
running throughout:
- Aliens
- Time/Space Travel
- Futuristic Settings
- Advanced
Technologies
- Exploration Of
3. Science Fiction films usually are
more inventive or imaginative, but
therefore are less plausible.
Colours used within the film could
be blues/greens/blacks/greys. The
colours are usually stereotypically
masculine and tend to be
‘futuristic’.
Music is often instrumental and
very dramatic, for example the Star
Wars theme – (click star wars

Themes can vary depending on
what the film is based around, but
4. Super Hero – Comic Book
Super Hero themed films are
stereotypically based around comic books
by Marvel, with a male who has an
‘unknown power’, or a group of mixed
gender ‘supers’.
They result in a fight between the good
guys and the bad guys, where typically
then good guys win.
In some Super Hero films the superhero
has a love interest, and a love triangle is
often created, but in the end, the woman
will end up falling for the main character
superhero.
5. Colours used within Comic
book themed films can vary
between very colourful
costumes to very dark and
sinister ‘bad guy’
environments. The setting in
which the films are usually set

often made up.
Sequels can be made very
easily from just one super
hero film, so the endings are
usually left open with
suspense creating space for
another film to be made in
conclusion.
6. Real Life
Real Life films are obviously
based around a real event
that has happened in the
past. Typically, these types of
films have been dramatized
or slightly fabricated to add
effect and narrative, but the
basis is the event itself.
Again, real life movies can
follow the Torodov theory,
although depending on what
event the film is based on,
this can differ. Disaster
movies are the most popular,
