• Asia is a cradle of the human race, world
religions, and civilization which is composed
of a widespread variety of ethnic groups,
diverse cultures, environments, economic,
historical linkages and varied governmental
systems.

Background• Confucius was from the country of Lu.
• One of the most influential figures in the
history of China.
• He was a teacher, editor, politician, and
philosopher.
• He emphasized personal and governmental
morality, correctness of social relationships,
justice and sincerity.
• Confucianism
• In a group activity, discuss what you
know about China like way of living,
culture, beliefs, practices.
• You will report your findings in class.
• Just choose one member from your
group to do the reportage.

Reflect on these questions. Answer them in 2
or 3 sentences.
• Was it acceptable for women to have a date without their parents’ consent?
• Describe the handsome gentlemen waiting for her in the lane as mentioned in
the poem. Why didn’t she go with them?
• How about the splendid gentleman in the second stanza? Why did she keep
company with him?
• What was she trying to say when she repeatedly said:
• I am wearing my unlined skirt, my skirt all of brocade.
• And my unlined coat, my coat all of brocade.
