 Clothes are made of materials that suit the
weather of a place.
 They protect us from the heat of the sun, rain and
cold .
 Cotton clothes to keep ourselves cool
 Raincoats to protect from rain.
 Woollen clothes to keep ourselves warm.
 Wearing full-sleeved clothes can protect us from
insect (like mosquito) bites.

Fibres an Fabrics
Type of Fibre Source Examples
Natural Fibres Natural fibres are obtained
from either plants or
animals
• Cotton and linen from
plants.
• Wool and silk from
animals
Synthetic
or
Man made fibre
Fibres that are not found
and are made by man are
called synthetic or man-
made fibres.
• Nylon and polyester.
Most fabrics made from
synthetic fibres are strong
and can last long.
They are stretchable,
waterproof and wrinkle-free.
• Clothes we wear depends on the weather of the place .
• Clothes are made from various kind of cloth materials or fabrics.
• Fabrics are made by weaving or knitting fibres together. Fibres are
long, thin threads.

Care of Clothes
 Clothes should be washed well with a good soap
or detergent to remove all the sweat, dirt, and
stains.
 Woollen and silk clothes need a lot of care.
 They are easily attacked by small insects like moth
and silverfish. We should store silk and woollen
clothes with mothballs or dried neem leaves. This
will keep the insects away.
 Woollen coats and trousers should be dry-cleaned
as it will be spoilt by plain washing.
