The Power Of Film,Video and TV
In The Classroom
In general…
 Films are either short or long clippings intended to
explain something visually
 Videos, on the other hand are pretty much the same thing,
but in most cases shows a story.
 Television (TV) is the material/tool that is used to present
both film and video.
What they do…
 It can transmit a wide range of audio-visual materials
like still pictures, specimens, films and drama.
 Bring models of excellence to the viewer
 Bring reality to the home or the classroom through film or
videotape
 See and hear world events as they happen
 Make a topic understandable to a wide variety of age and
audience.
 Provide sounds and sights that are not easily available
Procedures and guidelines when using Audio-Visual
materials
 Prepare the classroom
 Prepare previewing activities
 Do not interrupt the viewing
 Make sure sights and sounds are clear
 After viewing, make the students feel at ease by avoiding difficult
questions, start the discussion with light question.
 Make sure that the use of TV is in lined with your expected
learning outcomes and is relevant to the topic.
 Avoid using audio-visual materials for the sake of killing time,
make sure that viewing is significant and serves a purpose.
BENEFITS OF USING THE AUDIO-VISUAL
MATERIALS:
 It creates an experience.
 It makes learning interactive
 Enhances the lesson
 Accommodates the diversity of the student’s and their learning
styles
 Creates enthusiasm in the students
THE SETBACKS OF A-V MATERIALS
Promotes laziness for both students and teacher
Hinders the development of creative thinking and
imagination
Additional expense on the part of the schools
