Mobilizing Culture: Using Popular Media to Teach About Race, Class, and Gender in the Digital Sphere Renee Hobbs University of Rhode Island Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Conference August 7, 2020
COM 250 Digital and Media Literacy University of Rhode Island fully online undergraduate General Education course Ordinary creativity is the focus of this project. Document and analyze one example of a YouTuber, Instagrammer, TikTokker, or another individual who has embraced the identity of a digital author to deconstruct and analyze the choices they make and discover what aspects of their work are most appreciated by their target audiences. You create a screencast analysis video that gives insight on this individual's work by applying the critical questions and key concepts of digital and media literacy. Your purpose is to help a general audience gain critical insight on the ways in which ordinary creativity is expressed by digital authors who share content on digital platforms.
1. Choose a digital author to analyze 2. Select a particular work to analyze 3. Gather information & develop key ideas 4. Write the voice-over narration and select images 5. Rehearse and produce your screencast 6. Upload and share to a public website 7. Reflect on the learning experience

  • 2. COM 250 Digital and Media Literacy University of Rhode Island fully online undergraduate General Education course Ordinary creativity is the focus of this project. Document and analyze one example of a YouTuber, Instagrammer, TikTokker, or another individual who has embraced the identity of a digital author to deconstruct and analyze the choices they make and discover what aspects of their work are most appreciated by their target audiences. You create a screencast analysis video that gives insight on this individual's work by applying the critical questions and key concepts of digital and media literacy. Your purpose is to help a general audience gain critical insight on the ways in which ordinary creativity is expressed by digital authors who share content on digital platforms.
