Se ha demostrado que la STE tiene utilidad en todo el espectro de la
cardiopatía isquémica tanto como herramienta diagnóstica de infarto del
miocardio y pronóstica postinfarto miocárdico, que como método de
estratificación no invasivo de enfermedad coronaria y como indicador de
viabilidad miocárdica postinfarto miocárdico.

El desbalance entre la demanda y la oferta de oxígeno
miocárdico conlleva alteración o pérdida de la función
contráctil de la fibra miocárdica
Disfunción que puede presentarse durante
horas a días luego del evento isquémico sin
haber daño estructural o muerte celular de
base
Puede manifestarse como disfunción
contráctil por hipoperfusión crónica
recuperable mediante revascularización
apropiada y temprana

El strain se expresa como un cambio fraccional o porcentaje de cambio
en la dimensión de un objeto (strain), y la velocidad a la que sucede
este cambio (strain rate), corregido por el tamaño original del objeto.
•Longitudinal: Deformación miocárdica en
dirección base-ápex
•Radial: Deformación miocárdica dirigida
hacia el centro de la cavidad
•Circunferencial: Acortamiento del ventrículo
izquierdo a lo largo del perímetro circular
desde el eje corto del plano transversal del
ventrículo izquierdo

Se ha demostrado que la STE tiene utilidad en todo el espectro de la cardiopatía isquémica tanto como herramienta diagnóstica de infarto del miocardio y pronóstica postinfarto miocárdico, que como método de estratificación no invasivo de enfermedad coronaria y como indicador de viabilidad miocárdica postinfarto miocárdico.
