What Are The Benefits of A Safe-list? Are Their
                        Benefits?
by Robin Nelson | on January 23, 2013

How does sending your commercial emails to certain individuals you don’t even know sound to
you? And these people are actually expecting to receive these emails from you? They didn’t go to
your opt in page and sign up or give you their information directly. You didn’t have to buy any of
these emails from a bulk email service. They also haven’t even heard of you or seen your name
before. But wait a minute. That does not sound completely right. So how is this possible?

It is very simple, if you really know what this secret is. The secret is in a certain list that people
join and share emails. Any individual who is on one of these lists, also known as a safe list,
understands that they will be receiving emails from other members on these lists. This is what
makes these lists possible because receiving emails by people they don’t know is one of the
conditions of their “safe list” membership requirements.

People who join these lists are willing to agree to these conditions because in most cases they
themselves are looking to send out their own commercial emails to all the others on the list as
well. In most cases, these lists are mostly made up of members who are looking for more email
addresses just like someone like you. They join the list to get potential email subscribers to send
their emails too. But the result is that everyone is sending emails to each other but no one is
actually reading them!

It gets worse too, when certain savvy members sign up that are for the membership just looking
for extra emails they usually use a free or less-frequently-used account to store the useless emails
in that they will never bother to open and read. This happens all the time and in most cases. The
requirement of signing up to get other emails is too tempting to do it properly. They think they
will end up with lots of potential customers, but in all actuality they are only promoting to other
promoters who aren’t interested. Just as they were never interested in emails sent to them either.

Having said all of this, remember that it is always a much better idea to start your own mailing list
by sending them to your own opt-in pages and build your list by knowing these people really want
your emails. You know they want your emails because you asked them for their information from
your opt-in page and they gave it to you. You don’t have to worry too much if your emails actually
got looked at or read and you know for sure they are interested. What is better than knowing
that? No matter how tempting a safe list membership can be or how many members or you think
how many potential customers there are in a safe list, it’s never a good idea. It’s just a big waste of
time and possibly money. It won’t turn out to be anything in the short or the long run. Safe lists
are temporary at best.
