These resources include the Rural Community Toolbox, the Community Assessment Tool, and Rural Community Action Guide.

O F F I C E O F N A T I O N A L D R U G C O N T R O L P O L I C Y Rural Community Toolbox  The Rural Community Toolbox is a clearinghouse for funding, technical assistance, and other information from 17 federal departments and agencies to support local action in rural America.  In addition to funding and technical assistance, the Toolbox includes a library of current information resources from federal Departments and agencies on 46 key topics related to drug addiction in rural America.  It also houses the Community Assessment Tool and the Rural Community Action Guide. 33

Community Assessment Tool O F F I C E O F N A T I O N A L D R U G C O N T R O L P O L I C Y • Help community leaders understand the relationship between the downstream and upstream factors. • Use the tool to guide discussion about community vulnerabilities and how to create an environment where addiction is less likely to take root. • Help drive policy and local investment decisions. • Support/strengthen intrinsic community functions that are also critical for absorbing, rebounding from, and adapting to risk factors. • Help guide federal agencies towards a consistent framework for thinking about rural communities as they create funding opportunities. • Promote the identification and sharing of relevant data, and facilitate the collection of new data needed to fill critical information gaps. 8
