  2. 2. WHEN? Easter usually comes in the month of April. It is what is called a 'moveable feast' because the date of it is fixed according to the moon. Easter Sunday has to be the first Sunday following the full moon, after the Spring equinox (March 21st) - the Paschal Full Moon .
  3. 3. This means that Easter can fall as early as March 22nd or as late as April 25th. In 2009, Easter Sunday was on April 4th In 2010, Easter Sunday is on March 28th
  4. 4. TRADITION Easter is a time of springtime festivals. In Britain Easter is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God.
  5. 5. Maundy Thursday Is the Thursday before Easter. Christians remember it as the day of the Last Supper, when Christ washed the feet of his disciples and established the ceremony known as Eucharist.
  6. 6. Good Friday On the Friday before Easter, Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is a day of mourning in Church. That day represents the death of Jesus on the cross.
  7. 7. Easter Bunny Traditions associated with the festival survive in the Easter Bunny, a symbol of fertility, and in coloured Easter eggs, originally painted with bright colours to represent the sunlight of the Spring.
  8. 8. In Britain parents say to their children: -When you are good, “Easter Bunny” gives you chocolate eggs
  9. 9. EASTER WEATHER SUPERSTITIONS... If it rains on Easter Sunday, it will rain the following seven Sundays. A white Christmas will bring a green Easter, and a green Christmas will bring a white Easter.
  10. 10. EASTER EGGS GAMES One of the most popular games is “The Easter egg hunt”. Often parents plants eggs at home and leave clues for the children, with candy and sweets as prize.
  11. 11. Why Easter Cards? Today people have the desire to celebrate the beginning of the light season with their relatives and friends. Many people don’t live at the same city as their family, so they send Easter Cards to wish a Happy Easter. Now you can see some Easter Cards
  12. 12. VOCABULARY: Usually: When something usually happens, it is the thing that most often happens in a particular situation. Moveable feast: A feast is a great celebration. When you say that “It is a moveable feast”, it means that the feast can be changed to another date.
  13. 13. Early: Before the usual time that a particular activity happens. Late: Means near the end of a day, week, year or other period of time. Mourning: When you show sadness about a person’s death. Sunlight: Is the light that comes from the sun during the day.
  14. 14. Hunt: When you hunt for something you try to find it. Plant: When you plant something, like Easter Eggs, you hide them to other people try to find them. Clue: A clue is something that helps you to find that you are searching for. Candy: Is the same as “Sweets”. Candy is used in U.S.A. and Sweets in Britain.
  15. 15. Sweets: Sweet food or drink contains a lot of sugar Prize: Is a present that you give as regard for doing good work.
