This document discusses the relationship between design methods and research methods. It proposes two concepts: 1. Researcherly design methods - Methods used by researchers trained in design, such as addressing problems and producing solutions with a focus on proficiency and producing outcomes for particular uses. 2. Designerly research methods - Methods used by designers trained in research, such as addressing questions to produce knowledge with a focus on criticality and producing transferable outcomes determined by peer impact. The document argues that the same techniques can be used for both design and research but with different purposes depending on whether the individual is taking a design or research perspective. It provides examples of researchers who span both areas and references works exploring these concepts further
