11. UNESCO’s World Heritage Biodiversity
Programme in India
It was formally launched on 25
July, 2007, by the Honorable
Minister of State, Environment and
forest, Government of India, Shri
Sevugan Regupathy. at a one-day
workshop held in New Delhi.
The project seeks to conserve the
earth’s most spectacular examples
of natural and biological heritage in
India, which have been identified as
the World Heritage Biodiversity sites
by UNESCO. The project will focus
mainly on community participation
in the management of the protected
area and capacity building of the
park management. The study area
for the project will cover four World
Heritage Biodiversity sites- Kaziranga
and Manas in Assam, Keoladeo (also
sometimes referred to as Ghana) in
Rajasthan and Nanda Devi in
Uttaranchal.

Importance of the
area
The area has unique Shola vegetation and grass land with number
of floral species which are unique and having lot of medicinal value.
Hogrekan is moderately wooded land and its vegetation is of dry
deciduous type and has a link with Bababudanagiri and
Kemmangundi, adjoining Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary and
Yemmedode Tiger Reserve and serving as "Wildlife Corridor"
between Kudremukha and Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary.

Chose a diverse path for the walk, about 100 to 200 meters distance. Close your eyes, start walking slowly bare foot, feeling very step of the walk – the soil, texture, grass, plants, pebbels, gravel, etc. About 20 minutes.
Closed eyes and bare hands
Observe an ants nest, see how the ants are working together for the community relentlesly.
