2. Readership figures.
Readership figures are an estimate of how many readers a publication
has. Most magazines usually have more than one reader for each copy
of the magazine. This means that the readership figures are very
different from circulation count. The circulation count is the amount of
copies of a publication (in this case a magazine) are distributed.
Readership estimates also show the demographic profile of the readers
and what else they do and read.
3. These are the magazine readership figures that I have found from regional
magazines that are similar to the type of magazine that I would like to create. I
found these readership figures on a website called PressGazette and they had
the circulation figures for two of the magazines that I features in my existing
product analysis which are ASOS.com magazine and Canary Wharf magazine.
They also had figures for Vogue which are also helpful as I plan to do a fashion
related magazine. I also found some figures on another website called
MediaWeek where I found figures for Vogue magazine which is a fashion
magazine which I would like to do for my magazine.
4. The figures that I have found impact my understanding of audience for
my production work. The figures show me that the highest circulation
figure out of the three magazines is ASOS.com with a total circulation
of 476,569 compared to Vogue magazine with 200,032 and Canary
Wharf magazine with 53,512. This means that in this particular year,
ASOS.com sold the most magazines out of all three of the chosen
magazine. This does not show the readership figures though as
readership figures are based on a estimate of how many readers the
publication actually has. So the readership figures for each would be
higher than the total circulation.
5. Who are the specific audiences for specific products?
Fashion Magazines- There are many different types of fashion magazines on the market and each have a slightly
different target audience. For example fashion magazines like ASOS are most likely aimed more at an age range of
16-25 and specifically students, as the fashion shown in these types of magazines is current and affordable which is
ideal for students who may not have much money. ASOS magazine is aimed at mainly females but it also includes
men's fashion so it covers a wider target audience than most fashion magazines. On the other hand, fashion
magazines like Vogue are aimed at mainly females aged 18-35 as the fashion in this magazine is more sophisticated
and often a lot more expensive items as it features a lot of designer labels. This is why the target audience is slightly
older as most people under 18 would not be able to afford the clothing items from these magazines, however
people younger and also people with less money still buy these type of magazines to take inspiration. Vogue is also a
highly recognised fashion magazine so it is quite popular with a lot of different people.
