phy
Electromyography, or EMG, is a diagnostic test used to assess the
health of muscles and motor neurons, which are the nerve cells
responsible for muscle control. During an EMG, a health care
provider inserts small needle electrodes into a patient’s muscle to
measure the electrical activity that occurs while the muscle tissue
is at rest. The measurements are recorded on a graph as sounds or
numerical values that are then interpreted by a specialist.

An EMG is typically performed on patients who have symptoms,
such as tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness, that may be
indicative of a muscle or nerve disorder. The entire procedure
takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes and causes only mild side
effects that may include bruising and tenderness at the electrode
site.
