9. The sun move backward ten degrees
In those days was Hezekiah so sick he was dying. The prophet Isaiah went to
see him and told him to prepare for his death. So King Hezekiah prayed to the
LORD for help.
Isaiah left the king and while he was in the central courtyard, the Lord told him,
“Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, ‘Thus said the LORD,
I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will heal you. And I
will add to your days fifteen years; and I will deliver you and this city out of the
hand of the king of Assyria.’”
Hezekiah answered Isaiah, “What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me,
and that I shall go up to the temple the third day?”
And Isaiah said, “The LORD will give you a sign to prove that He will keep His
promise. Will the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?”
And Hezekiah answered, “It is easy for the shadow to go down ten degrees:
no, but the shadow cannot return backward ten degrees.”
And Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD: and He brought the shadow ten
degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.”
