2. "I don’t like to follow the crowd. I like to
seduce, with images that are at once
disturbing and beautiful, but leaving a
space for the viewer to enter my
world. My portraits combine elements
which evoke conflicting emotions that
can surprise the viewer, telling a story
that is somewhere between fantasy and
reality, the obvious and the
unexpected.“ Quote – Vee Speers.
3. About her…
Vee Speers was born in Australia and
studied at Queensland College of Art. She
worked in Paris until 1990. In the 80’s she
went to work for the ABC television in
Sydney. She had her first exhibition when
she moved to Paris. Her work has been
widely exhibited and has been seen in
publications including The Sunday Times,
Harpers & Queen, Arena, Esquire, and Black
& White Magazine.
5. FACTUAL: The photo was taken by
Vee Speers, it is apart of the
series ‘Bordello’. Her 1st series.
THE CONTEXT: The collection was
supposed to be of beautiful women
causes the viewer to merge with the
surroundings of the image and enter
a kind of dream-like vision of an
often sordid reality.
TECHNICAL: I think that these
images could have been taken in a
rich home or a theatre because of
the interior.
ASTHETIC: I think that the style was
to symbolise women who show
beauty where it is lacking.
7. FACTUAL: These images were
taken by Vee Speers.
CONTEXT: These are apart of
the series called ‘The
Birthday Party’. 2nd series
TECHNICAL: I think these have
also been taken by a camera
on a stand because there are
very faced on, at the models
head level. The background
may also be a white backdrop
or a green screen.
ASTHETIC: The theme of these
images are like an old birthday
party. The models are all
younger children. Some of the
models heads are turn to the
side and some are looking
directly into the camera.
9. FACTUAL: These images
where taken by Vee
Speers.
CONTEXT: This was her
forth series called
‘Immortal’.3rd series.
TECHNICAL: I think that
she could of used a green
screen or the background.
AESTHETIC: In these images
the models are without
clothes and there body's are
turned away from the
camera.
11. FACTUAL: These were taken
by Vee Speers of her
daughter who was turning
thirteen.
CONTEXT: They are part of
the series ‘Thirteen’. 4th
series
TECHNICAL: I think these
have been taken with a
camera on a stand to get a
straight on shot, also I think
it was in a studio, with
maybe a white background
or a green screen.
AESTHETIC: This is a very
angel like theme, because
of the white backdrop and
cloths. Also in most of the
images the models have
something on there backs
representing angel wings
maybe.
12. Vee Speers inspires me because her
photos tell interesting stories that make
people intrigued and want to ask
questions. About what inspired her to
take the pictures the way she did.
