Data collected from 9230 students from 116 schools
from 18 school divisions/authorities:
The survey focused on risk and protective factors for
chronic illness.

22. Healthy Schools and Communities Grant
The grant is to positively impact youth health by
supporting actions at the school/community level.
Grants are available for schools and communities
regardless of their participation in the survey
Schools/Communities who have not participated in
survey, could use other levels of report

The two components of the initiative that I would like to mention today.

In SAYCW our goal was to contribute to the local knowledge of communities across Saskatchewan by conducting a YHS on young people between the 7th and 12th grade.
In 2015, the questionnaire was completed by 9230 students in 118 schools in 18 different divisions and Authorities.
The questionnaire includes questions on demographics, oral health, physical activity, mental health, education, sexual health, use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol, etc.
Specific reports containing the findings in each school are produced and shared with the school divisions.
Reports at the board level, the health region and the province are also products for other audiences.
Reports to the board and school levels belong to the participating schools themselves.
The provincial report would be released in December

Setting: Global Approach to School Health
SAYCW Started with the idea that healthy students are better suited to learning, and that those who are educated are in better health.

SAYCW is interested in engaging new partners and including more perspectives as it continues its work with schools and communities. Currently there are four working groups:
The Data Analysis Working Group: This group works with the research officer and research assistant to analyze, interpret, and share the data collected through the SAYCW Youth Health Survey, and to present it in ways that are helpful and appropriate to the various audiences (schools, school divisions, health regions, the public, provincial decision-makers, etc.)
The Knowledge to Action Working Group: This group works to support communities across the province in transforming the knowledge gained through the SAYCW Youth Health Survey into action that will promote health among youth in local communities. This includes creating resources for action, liaising with communities, and supporting the community action coordinator in connecting communities with resources and relevant stakeholders.
Healthy Schools and Communities Grant Working Group: This group works to put in place a granting process that communities can apply for to fund action based on SAYCW Youth Health Survey results.
Governance and Sustainability Committee: This committee is being developed to support the governance and the sustainability of the SAYCW through mutually beneficial and collaborative partnerships, and long-term resources.
