7. According to Hindu mythology (Brahma
Purana), when Brahma was creating the
universe, the first woman to be created by him,
along with Manu, the first man, was X. Hindu
mythology narrates a story to explain X’s
beauty, grace and charm. It is said that when
Brahma created X, he was immediately
infatuated and pursued her wherever she went.
X moved in various directions to avoid his gaze
but wherever she went, Brahma developed
another head until he had four, one for each
direction of the compass. Desperate, X leaped
over him to stay out of his gaze even for a
moment. A fifth head, however, appeared
above the others. Thus, Brahma developed five
heads. According to the Matsya Purana, X is
known by different names, but is primarily
called X as she can acquire hundred forms.

Sivagangai, was the first ruler in the Indian

place. Kuyili was an army commander of the
queen. It is believed that during the Battle,
Kuyili entered the fortress by applying ghee on
her body and attained martyrdom. Kuyili’s
sacrifice is recorded in the history as the FIRST

1864 by the English cricketer John
Wisden (1826–84) and its annual publication
has continued uninterrupted to the present day,

15. Gëzim Alpion, from the department of social policy,
sociology and criminology at Birmingham University, is
often considered as “the most authoritative English-
language author on X and the founder of X studies.” Alpion
has devoted 20 years of research into X’s early personal
experiences. His research has showed that X’s father was
poisoned by Slavic nationalists in 1919, because he was an
Albanian patriot and was in favour of uniting the Albanian
territories. The murder of her father had traumatised X and
led to a lifelong struggle with “the dark night of the soul.”
The shocking incident also marked the beginning of X’s
attempts to replace her father with a divine figure — Jesus
— and “the start of her lifelong doubts about the existence
of God.” Moreover, X’s brother’s association with Benito
Mussolini’s fascist army, and her concern about the safety of
her mother and sister in her native (post-1945) Communist
state caused her to never speak about her private affairs.
Eventually, X entered the religious life but the ever presence
of death in her early years had a lifelong traumatic impact
on her spirituality and relationship with her family
members, her nation and especially, the vulnerable people.
X always held sacred the dignity of every human being. Her
belief and works has made her name famous worldwide
over time.

17. BBC's Bengali Service conducted the opinion poll
(2004) with the title ”Greatest Bengali of all time”.
The poll was participated by Bengalis around the
world. BBC informed that Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman bagged almost double points than the
second place holder Rabindranath Tagore, while
Tagore himself secured double points than Kazi
Nazrul Islam and Nazrul got double than A. K.
Fazlul Huq. The other 17 personalities however
had narrow differences of points with each
other. Along with highest six politicians, the list
also contains several authors and social
reformers. Also two religious preachers, one
scientist and one economist got place in the final
list. Amartya Sen is the only living personality to
be voted in the top 20 and X was the only woman
in the list. Eventually, X featured in the 6th
position in the overall list of 20 people.

19. X was the first Indian woman to obtain a
Doctorate of Science, and this was in a time
when women hardly ever pursued Chemistry.
She made many groundbreaking contributions
to medicine and is a role model to everyone,
especially to those women who want to study
Science which is stereotypically thought of as
the domain of men. Google celebrated the
occasion of X’s 100th Birth Anniversary (in 2017)

21. X was born in Kathiawar in
Gujarat into a family of
lawyers and teachers with
links to Kathiawari royalty.
Unfortunately, she was sold
by her lover, which
ultimately pushed her into
flesh trade. X decided
never to return to her
home. The Mumbai Don
Karim Lala made X his rakhi
sister. The resilient lady
soon emerged as “a force in society in her own right.”
Her political connections apparently won her an
appointment with the then Prime Minister of India,
Jawaharlal Nehru, at his residence in New Delhi. Fond
of gold-bordered white sarees and gold-buttoned
blouses and her black Bentley car, X apparently loved to
gamble, smoke bidis, drink locally-brewed liquor and
chew paan. The lady has been in news recently for her
larger-than-life representation.

The first worshipping of the goddess began at
Asansol city’s Nichupara Basti, where the
womenfolk got together to appease the
goddess. They did so in all good faith: a
small puja was arranged on the banks of
Chinnamasta pond in the area. Women from
various age groups gathered at 8 am — the
rituals went on till 9 am. According to the
believers of this newly added ‘goddess’, the
deity is formless. She can be the wind that
rattles the tile-roofed houses at night; the sun,
the water in the pond nearby, or the like!
